It’s an AEC Majestic. AK, KU, KW and KY were Bradford’s allocations of ‘index marks’ until the re-organisation of vehicle licensing in 1974, when the Bradford office closed and the marks were transferred to the new Sheffield LVLO (local vehicle licensing office). As previously mentioned, the book by Les Newall is a mine of information about the whole system.

Thanks for the info , i remember my dad telling me about the AEC but i couldn’t remember the model . I bet it looked well in their red livery

Not sure what you chaps are using for reg dating but KW Bradford ran from November 1926 to March 1931 and it appeared again April 1963 to July 1964 then AKW began August 64 with the B year letter (there were few A letter registrations). In all UK registration areas where just the two Letters were used followed by four numbers the period they covered differed some over two years some as many as ten. The normal control model in the photo may possibly be the Mercury built 1929-37 in conventional form, the Majestic tended to have the headlights higher almost inline with the slatting on the bonnet sides but you can never be certain with old photo’s the Mercury was a 4 Ton payload and the Majestic 6 Ton. Franky.

I can only go by what buses were registered but KW8593 was registered in Jun 1930 and KW9397 in Nov 1930 so it seems logical that this truck was registered sometime between these dates.
