One of our trucks has the UTC time 6 hours out…
Drivers have been told not to defect this as it’s not a problem.
I think is wrong and that anything over 20 mins out means a trip to the tachograph centre.
Am I right? And what is the relevant legislation? And potential penalty for operator and driver if not rectified.
You’re right it should be recalibrated if the UTC time is out by more than 20 minutes.
4.4 Responsibilities of operators
Analogue tachographs must be inspected every 2 years and recalibrated
every 6 years. Digital tachographs must be recalibrated:
- every 2 years
- after any repair
- if the vehicle registration number changes
- if UTC is out by more than 20 minutes
- after an alteration to the circumference of the tyres or characteristic coefficient
Think you’ll find it needs booking in and sorted at the soonest time .
All records are illegal with faulty equipment . Drivers moving from 1 veh to another could be showing insufficient rest breaks …
Are the office saying not to defect it. As they are awhere of it and it’s booked in ?
Is actually UTC time that’s out ?
Maybe the office are confusing UTC with LOCAL time settings
Just keep adjusting it by 1 minute every time you start your shift. At 1 minute per week it should take just under 7 years.
Let us know when you’ve finished
As suggested more than likely it’s the local time that’s out, sometimes there’s a driver who likes to play with the times for some reason.
