noticed this happening recently by the able bodied, spose its saving on fuel if youv only short journeys shop runs etc . is it legal i mean can you buy one to use as a local runabout?
No tax, insurance required. 4 MPH on pavement or 8 MPH on road, even on a 70 MPH duel carriage way. You choose
I looked at buying a cheap 8mph one so road legal, throwing the body away and building a little replica of my pre-war Albion lorry and using it around the village, I’d scratch build it but you can actually buy kits to do it, seems it still qualifies as an invalid scooter and the same rules apply.
Now I don’t know how strict the plod might be but the Gov.UK rules say:
You can only drive a mobility scooter or powered wheelchair if you:
have trouble walking because of an injury, physical disability or medical condition
are demonstrating the vehicle before it’s sold
are training a disabled user
are taking the vehicle to or from maintenance or repair

Disabled pal of mine customised and uses this:
Does a lot more than 8mph as well
Would an E bike not be a lot more practical. I have one and use it for a quick run to the shops.
If your just commuting to work n back get an electric.bike…
There basically rev and go don’t have to pedal the thing.
Some have a decent range and speed.
At a rough guess could easily get 20 mph out of one. And range varies but 20 miles plus.
Then just unclip small battery plug it in like a phone.
Need no tax insurance etc.
And can be quicker than driving to work esp if live in a city
got to thinking be handy for shop runs ,carting things in general.
Or you could walk. if you’re not fit enough to do that you soon will be.
Start using one of those things and it won’t be too long before you’re dependent on it.

Yep. Keep using what ever good health and muscle you`ve got.
Use it, or lose it!
They’re popular on hire in Benidorm with hen and stag parties I’m told
Because of the tv show obviously.

Anything that’s legally allowed to be ridden as an e-bike here in UK can only have power assistance up to 15.5 mph, must have pedals and said assistance can be no more than 250 Watts - the same as a reasonably fit cyclist. “Twist & Go” machines (even if they look like a regular bicycle) whose motors can power them above 15.5 mph are (in the eyes of the law) motorcycles and require the appropriate licence, Insurance, registration, helmet, tax and MoT test. They are also subject to Construction & Use and Road Vehicle Lighting Regs regarding lighting, brakes, tyres etc. It’s a potential minefield.
