Looking through various used truck sites, why are euro 4 MAN trucks so much cheaper than say volvo, scania or mercedes?? As they are a german manufacturer I find this hard to understand, any thoughts■■?
Reputation for being problematic after 500,000km, expensive main dealer parts prices, no end-of-life export market would be my guess.

not really had that much problems with mine Harry, and they all have well over 650,000KMs on them now
yes, the main dealer parts can be expensive, but, that can be said about most trucks

I guess what I’m trying to say is that even the doggiest Volvo or Scania is worth £10,000+ when it goes for export to Walvis Bay whereas an end-of-service MAN (or Renault, IVECO etc) is only worth scrap value.
You pays your money and takes your choice, my 08-reg Renault cost £16,000 less than an 08-reg Volvo when I bought it so I can hardly complain if it’s worth £4,000 less when I sell it.
they are cheaper than mercedes volvo n scania because because they are basicly not in the same league so do not warrant the same price tag in my eyes if somthings cheap its cheap for a reason man is german for iveco

Oddly Ivecos are fairly popular in Africa a lot go to Dar es salaam in Tanzania. I think your general point about Swedish trucks having a bottom value is right though.
There does seem to be a pattern of bad news about MANs on here I’ve noticed

Because they are ■■■. As said no export market, this is because they have a way over complicated wiring/ecu set up compared to most other makes. The auto box is ■■■■. The manual box is ■■■■. The after market parts are crap to interchange & the oem Equiptment is a fortune. Tbf they are just crap especially the cabs pre 57 plates.
you would think being VW they would be ok.obviously not.
The first thing to do with the EGR is cap it off. just uncap it for the MOT.
Problem free for a long long time.
