Saw a left hand drive brand new Stobart mercedes car transporter on Romanian plates coming out Portbury docks. Didn’t know Stobarts had a base in Romania.

Until there is some kind of accountabilty by big players in this country who work on the “whatevers cheapest” business model,
then this kind of thing will continue.
Branching out maybe ?
Probably running costs a little lower than the previous Belgium reg` fleet they ran a while back.
Did the reg` plates look British style spacing at all
They have quite a few running around Europe & popping in & out of the uk, there are some CZ reg trucks as well…
and there’s still people that luv and respect the stobart brand & there just doing the same as nobbys etc by heading east for bargain basement depots & drivers■■?

Only caught a quick glimpse of the plate, but the spacing looked like a RO plate.
he had a full load of cars on as well, so I wonder if he’s going back to Romania with them or is he delivering around the UK? Does cabotage come into it? Is each car classed as a separate movement or is the whole load classed as one load if you see what I mean?

Someone will know more about this than me, but i belive there is some sort of dispensation for car transporters regarding Cabotage operations.
They are obviously gearing up to take advantage of the relaxation of cabotage law for non UK car transporters during peak registration periods. Kerrching!
Details HERE
That was some quick answers there. Lol
An international firm having offices, Depots and lorries registered all over Europe.
Good grief whatever next? The Germans and Japanese making cars in the UK instead of at home?
Uh I don’t think they actually make the cars in the uk, assemble I think would be a better description, a bit like Rolls Royce that collect the various parts all over Europe and then unveil the finished article in Chichester and say “look how British our car is”.

Good God.
That’s it, I’m selling the Rolls to a peasant and getting a Bentley.
From when they bought autologic
But as memtioned theres a dispension for transpirters at peak reg times
Eg now then again in august for sept plate changes
Couldn’t say what happens now, but back in the Walon days (Autologic parent) the union negotiated the East European subbie drivers were paid the same rate as the UK lads whilst subbing on UK work, they must have thought they’d won the lottery grossing around £7/800 a week plus night out money.
Nothing wrong with a level playing field.
Bet they didnt get it tho
I believe they got the czech and romania depots from when they bought autologic. IIRC they got one in spain and germany too. The czech depot is HUGE with a freight terminal too. I`d assume a czech depot comes with czech trucks ect ect ect maybe
Erm, probably , yes Phil , whatever next I wonder .
I feel a top gear theme coming on , again , British built
A couple of weeks ago while returning via Calais there were a load of brand new MAN drawbar transporters, apparently so the plater/driver said they are heading to fords along with ■■■■ loads more…I thought he said hundreds were arriving but I may have been in filtering ■■■■■■■■ mode, .
