Unmarked Bridges: Hatch Markings on Bridges

Hello,

No height is given. Does anyone know what these hatch markings are for? What is the height of this bridge at Puritan off the M5?

Bridges under 16’6" are marked with the height, either triangular warning signs, or round prohibition signs. Since that bridge has not got those signs it should be at least 16’6".

Why the black/yellow markings? Possibly there has been road works of some there recently, and that was marked for site vehicles?

Yeah, it’s both sides of the motorway. It would be interesting to know why it is marked like that.

I’d imagine this is for the benefit of abnormal load transport.

That’s because of a discussion I had a long while ago with one of those STGO/AIL transport guys about a “low bridge” warning sign on the A66 between Darlington and Stockton, where it’s warning you of a 17’ 8" ‘low bridge’ and giving you an alternative route.

If that was the real reason for the signage I imagine @rikki-uk would know more as he is well-versed in the STGO/AIL work and is local to the area where this sign is.
