University of Oxford research [Newly Qualified Drivers ONLY]

This topic is posted on behalf of Trucking Lives, University of Oxford:

Have you received your Class 2 or Class 1 licence in 2023 and are looking to
build a career as an HGV driver?

If yes, would you like to be part of a two-year study on the experiences of newly qualified HGV drivers navigating a career as an HGV driver in the UK?

What do we request from you?

  • An initial one-hour telephone/in-person interview on why you wanted to become an HGV driver, your experiences of the training, testing process and your current employment status (get in touch even if currently unemployed).
    .
  • Fifteen-minute chats once every four months until March 2025 to chart your trajectory and experiences as an HGV driver.

Why this study?

The ‘Trucking Lives’ project https://www.truckinglives.co.uk led by the University of Oxford, aims to learn more about the experiences of newly qualified HGV drivers trying to get a foothold in the industry. Through this long-term study, we hope to find out what works for some drivers, what obstacles confront some others, and what structures of support - from the government and industry - would help attract and retain a younger and diverse HGV driver workforce in the UK.

Participants will be financially rewarded for each of the interviews with researchers.

If you are interested in participating in this research (or have any questions about it), please write to:
