the fta/rha are saying that the lane restrictions on the m42 between tamworth and appleby magna will cause mayhem and just make conjestion worse and how it will never work .well maybe they should tell the french germans dutch etc (as its worked ther for years)that theyve got it wrong.in my experiance of travaling up and down there it seems to work verywell that well infact that the other day the lorry lane was running freely and the car lane was backed up .
I didnt think fta/rha were unions? are they?.
No, they’re employer’s organisations (boss’s unions?) providing a range of legal, political lobbying - hence the public protest at the road proposals - and advice services to company members.
Why, alone in Europe, do British hauliers need two employer’s organisations (the RHA and FTA)? For much the same reason there are two driver’s unions (TGWU and URTU, since you ask) to ensure the government can always divide and rule them.

Carl, you can say what you will, but Germany and France have since ever much more Accidents then UK.
what is it with people on here ,that want to knock unions all the time ,especially this case when the organisations mentioned are not trade unions.think yourselves lucky that we have and have had trade unions, without them you would have something to moan about.
well i stand corrected on the union front.but as for the no overtaking rule i stand by what i saw and it works.as for unions well ive only ever been a member of one union once because i was advised to by the large logistics company i worked for and im sorry but they were a complete waste of space .when it came to payrise time they just used to rollover and let the company have there way. that was 12 years ago and ive never been in one since.
TK Dave:

They don’t. The Road Haulage Association is for road hauliers. The Freight Transport Association is not just for road but all freight movers, which includes rail, sea, and air freight. Also it is mainly for firms who have their own goods to move, manufacturers etc. although it is open to hauliers as well. Many members are not operators at all.
Salut, David.
Spardo:
The Road Haulage Association is for road hauliers.
Salut, David.
Are you sure?.

Yes. Ask Ian.
Salut, David.
Spardo is correct about both RHA and FTA
Re Warrior: I’ve always been a union member, ( a former shop steward and out for three week in the great driver’s strike of '79) but that doesn’t mean I can’t criticise them.

a union is only as strong as the members want it to be.

Me too, but that was the T&G, never paid me a penny for running my car all over Leics. & Notts. organising pickets because I was technically on the sick at the time (smashed finger at work).
Salut, David.
well i run to germany every week and the overtaking ban stinks, it fails to take into account the power and weight ratio of the trucks, a better system is the minimum speed lanes, yes it would be abused by some but so is the overtaking restriction.
if this country does not have the road space to accomodate slow moving vehicles then it should make the roads bigger.
why are these ministers rushing to appease the car driver?
car driver says jump mp and low and behold they are jumping through hoops.
