Uk Motorway service areas

trevHCS:
Tebay services (unless it’s changed in the past 20 years).

Tebay has had a lot of work done to improve what was already an excellent services. They are in the process of improving the parking to ensure that cars don’t park where the LGVs park.

xichrisxi:
drivers of said HGVs only use the services for toilets on the whole

On the wheel you mean as it saves that 10 minute walk to the toilet

A lot do,I don’t…only in lay-bys.

And the crowning cat turd on the new turf, as I walk away some prick walks into me trying to queue jump handing their diesel card in.

That’s what i would do, and i suspect a lot of others do?

Me too !!

I think most do, unless you get a particularly awkward cashier; for eg Strensham N/B.

The standard of most services, including so called truck stops where you would expect the facilities to be far better are pretty dire really. There are a handful of excellent stops but these are few and far between and can only be used when you’re lucky enough to be close by.We are only aloud to use services/stops who accept SNAP so are very limited.I think all the average bod wants is plenty of parking, hot spacious showers and decent food at a reasonable price.Well i do any way.

That one at (I think) J38 of the M6 that has a big picture of ■■■■■■ Sally Traffic on the wall is one of the best I’ve ever been too. The only downside was the exit barriers which always took ages to acknowledge your number.

What if you got caught short and just couldn’t make it ? You’ll have to squat down then

Down south here, the volume of LGV traffic has mushroomed over the past few years.

Yet, MSAs are still built with “minimum land use” in mind, since Land is at such a premium - in price at least.

Either we curb the traffic, by leaving the EU, get foreign trucks to leave it on our doorstep for internal drivers to disburse it around the country

OR…

We start spreading MSAs out like “Sprawley”, and crush the NIMBYs instead… :smiling_imp:

Trouble with these “Win/Win” situations is that the authorities always choose to do NEITHER, and thus ■■■■■■ defeat from the jaws of victory. :frowning:

It’s the same story with the Airports… Heathrow don’t want it - but Cameron won’t rule it out, Gatwick are indifferent, but can’t seem to get the go-ahead, and Grain gets ruled out - when it’s the only area that would actually benefit from the regeneration and new jobs brought in… Great. :unamused:

Here you go

Talk to “The organ grinder”, albeit “they have no organ”

Anyway I’m off now as I’ll be accused of being on my hobbyhorse
Just remember facts matter more than opinion
DSBU is not far off the mark with some comments, the rest is wishful thinking, I suppose one problem is hauliers expect to run for a profit but want service areas and local residents/councils to provide a FREE service? ?
Here you go Mr BossHogg

I’ve told you before Winseer the Nimbys are already objecting to another proposed MSA on the M25  Or should i say an adjacent council is

Those charging points are now installed and the truck stop at 38 is owned by the same people that own Tebay services and Rheged at Penrith.

I agree on Cobham and Beaconsfield to being better due to the choice of numerous food outlets, from a roast carvery, noodles, Indian,Mexican, and a Weatherspoons on the M40.
They are full up by 17.00 and the parking for Lgvs at Cobham must have been designed by a blind and drunk dyslexia suffering Mr Maggoo .
With the large amount of cross channel traffic using the M25, surely the owners could have purchased more land adjacent to the Msa.
Two large duck ponds, what could have been more parking space.
The outside laundrymat is a great idea for Euro trampers away all year in their cabs.

They probably double as fire fighting reservoirs. At least I’d like to think so, but so many developments have space wasted on pointless “works of art”, monuments to people that nobody except their relatives have ever heard of.

Don’t think the duck ponds were used when Cobham caught fire earlier in the year

Adonis.:
Most on here seem to agree that services are dung. Why are they all rammed full after 1700 every night then if we hate them so much??

That baffles me, wtf is the attraction exactly :open_mouth: ■■

I reckon it’s down to lack of knowledge and/or imagination to pull off Mway, and find somewhere else, like a suitable ind est on edge of a town with REAL facilities.

Or

They are timing it to run to last minute of driving time. :unamused:

The only MSA I have ever overnighted at is Charnock M6, and that was only because we all used to arrange it on a Fri night.
Then to walk over the field to the pub/nightclub…and that was in the 80s

You can keep the overpriced ■■■■ holes for me, I’ll stick to my own secret places. :sunglasses:

cracker-bar:
That’s very true, of all but the newer ones. I would cite Gloucester north, and south, as good examples of something different. Beaconsfield, and Cobham are ok too.

as usual though the parking area for hgvs is about half a mile away[slight exaggeration I know but you know what I mean]parking for cars is allways right outside the services while hgv drivers usually have to walk a couple of hundred yards[worse if you are busting for a jimmy]

Apart from the crap food, extortionate prices and the ■■■■ stinking parking areas. The one thing that annoys the ■■■■ out of me at MSA’S is the state of the showers.

Usually covered in mould, with a ■■■■ like dribble of water that might be lukewarm if your lucky. And don’t get me started on the suspect organic matter that is sometimes found on the floor.

How these places have the neck to charge for these facilities is beyond me.

BossHogg:

You forgot Cairn lodge and “other interests”

BeakFreak81:
■■■■ stinking parking areas.

Who ■■■■■■ in the parking areas the owners or the customers?

Show me a list of what is free in life.
If we had a gov/minister who had the balls to tell you how it is rather than pandering to the ‘electorate’ or Edmund King at the AA you may actually see positive reasoning and change, until then keep on talking ■■■■■■■■ and whistling

What i should of said is how do they have the neck to charge what they do for the facilities they provide.I don’t expect to use their facilities for free but if your paying a premium for a service that service needs to be good.

As for the ■■■■■■■ issue that’s just down to pure laziness on the part of certain elements of my fellow drivers.Maybe the MSA’s should reinvest some of our parking money on regular ‘■■■■ patrols’ [emoji57] …i’d say once an hour would suffice.

Talking ■■■■■■■■ has never been my strong point,i usually leave that for others on here [emoji1]
