I wonder who was in the low datum cab lucas roadtrain then, Mel Bacon and Dave Gray were in the high datum I think, according to an article I read.
Heres a shot of the truck I need more pics of, the union jack roadtrain [album]568[/album]
Mike
And the truck was indeed called “Gert”. The high datum was called Flo and I seem to remember and was actually registered as an “austin princess”! She also won the LeMans 24 hour race for trucks in the mid eighties!

Other way round, the high datum was “Gertie” and the low datum was “Flo”
I dont know how good he was as I never saw him race but i use to work for a bloke who raced trucks for ERF,his name was Paul McCumilski,he owned Burton International Transport, dont know if he still races, anyone know ?
Got some pics somewhere Went to Donnington 84 & Brands hatch 85 Remember some classics racing such as Transcons, spanish dodges an F88 & a leyland buffalo . Some well known haulage firms entered units then - literally dropping there trailors then racing
Hi, I’m looking for old magazines with mel bacon in. They were a couple of them that followed truck racing, truck and driver, one also called truck, I would like to know who published them if anyone has some old copies so i can get back issues.
Mel is my father and I’m trying to collect magazines, pictures, videos etc as we lost a lot over the years. I’m also trying to track down Bertie if anyone has acme information on her whereabouts.

i used to like watchin the truck racin when it were normal lorries that could race at the weekend and if still in one piece go to work in the week.
Nowadays to me they dont seem like lorries atall.
think the first truck raced by Mel Bacon was a seddon aitkinson which belong to masons of shewsbury. remember seeing it when doing a rolls engine coure and going there with dave huxley who worked for roll on the experimental side.
masons used to have a yard next door to salop haulage in shrewsbury.
was chris hodges another driver

if you need any roadtrain parts let me know as my uncle still has a shed full

I remembar Willie Green, he was the tops He drove a black ERF and was always leading the pack, he was also very brave I watched him at Silverstone on day when his engine caught fire … he just carried on till he got to the pits and pulled in with flames shooting everywhere and sat in his cab as they put the fire out ERF’s were nototious for having very compustable fibeglass cabs and to sit in one with all that going on showed he was either stupid or brave
He went on to win the race.
