TWP @ Port of Entry

Does any one know if I can still get a TWP at port of entry, even if I have had one with a different company??

I have had an interview with a company in Alberta, but they seem to think that because I have had a TWP before, then I will have to go through CIC in London to get another permit.

I don’t really want to go through all that again.
Cheers.

Yes you can as long as you have the relevant paperwork & fee.

Been there, done that

First time I had a work permit from PEI, moved to Alberta, got new job, LMO, went to the border in Coutts/Sweetgrass with all paperwork and was told, no, we don’t do that! But they did it…

Second time, work permit from Alberta, switched companies, again to Coutts/Sweetgrass, absolutely no problem.
Have heard of some drivers, all no problems at all.

But, they will not renew an existing permit at the border for the same company.

Was back in Germany for one year and got a new work permit in Calgary at the airport with new LMO when I came back, was also no problem.

When I changed employer in Alberta I changed my workpermit at the border and even renewed my workpermit at the border. They did moan and ■■■■■ some but did it anyhow.

No issues over this side. The border at Woodstock, NB have never given out over any of the above mentioned scenarios. All the drivers in the Woodstock area go to the border to activate TWPs for new companies or to activate a new LMO to work for the same company after as their current TWP expires. Never been an issue, ever.

It depends who you get at Coutts. They made a fuss changing mine and said should have sent it off to Vegerville. One of our new guys got turned away the other week they wouldn’t do it for him. Try Cardston been told they are easier to deal with

Cardston would me my choice as well, did my PR there, took about 20 mins, Coutts can be a strange crossing sometimes depending who’s on.
I got caught with 3 packs of smokes over the limit once, a genuine mistake forgetting I had them in an overhead locker, you’d think I was trying to smuggle 20 ton of heroine the lecture I got and was going to fine me $120 and confiscate them till the officer in the payment office told me me I was wasting his time, rung through to the first one and bollocked him. He give me my smokes back and no fine.

They can be ar$eholes at Coutts not the best border to cross at

Oi Taffy, what have you been told about censor dodging? Don’t do it, let the [zb]ing autosensor do its thing :exclamation:

newmercman

Will more than likely be flying in to Edmonton.

You’ll do it at the airport then when you first land in Canada. No need to go to the border.

Renewing TWP at the border is not usual practice, unless you’re a long haul cross border truck driver, then you have dispensation to renew it at the border as you cannot cross without a valid permit and going via Vegreville takes months and months, so you would effectively be unable to do your job.

I renewed my TWP four times at Emerson MB and it was never an issue.
