‘…The Judge at Ipswich Crown Court…’ was simply doing what our succession of governments has blindly signed us all up to with Europe - including to do so on your behalf.
No Lab/Lib/Con voter has any right to whinge since those parties all advocate & adhere to the EU principles of (once solely) British law.
If you run bent, you keep the rates down. I used to get so p***ed off telling mates who were owner drivers at the time. Needless to say, they work for other people now!
So I like a lot of people watch road wars etc on television watching people steal cars drive at 100 mph plus and get sweet F A in the way of punishment yes we have gone mad, commuinity service might have been a better punishment .A prison record will stick for years and no chance of having an ‘O’ licence again so they made mistakes but a custdodial sentence is I think a bit harsh .

Making a mistake is miscalculating your driving hours by a few minutes or not having a full daily rest because of an error.
In this case the Father used his sons card on at least 36 occasions, that is 36 times that he was able to compete with the likes of Globby and anyone else, and take work away from an operator who does run to the book.
If you do want to run bent, don’t whinge about it when you get caught.
Wheel Nut:
Oh well there is an update, they have released the son and given him community service instead.
Remember Willie Whitelaw with his Gilbert and Sullivan’s Mikado speech?
Short Sharp Shock
Maybe this lad will think twice when the old man asks him to put his name on a few cards in future
So that will please some, with another company running boxes out of Felixstowe free to cut corners again.
now how the ■■■■,w, nuts are they ““free to cut corners again””, bent or straight you still use the same amount of derv tyre wear etc so how can you cut the rate with running it iffy■■? as wibble , i just carnt get my head round that one how can you do it cheaper please tell me how you can do so
thats prob why ya mates wibble are working for someone else now then as they didnt have a clue about costs and doing the job for bugger all whats the point in that never mind running bent for even less■■?,
You either have to run bent becuase you rdoing the job cheaper, IE:- under cutting but have to work more to make a decent living, or you run bent running at the same rate as joe bloggs next door and want to make vasts amount??
ok i agree with you on that s,cruiser, but basically the box job is mainly job rates “bare with me” so why would you do it for less than the agent as told you what it pays just to do the job, yep mileage rates aswell it still turns to the same or very similar price at teh end of the day, but if your doing the job for nothing or less where is the point in that,
i always thought running bent was for personal gain " GREED" surley no one is stupid enough to risk it for a biscuit for nothing.
your big boys can cut and chop rates leaving the o/d to try to work to that price esp on boxes as a few big players in fxo did with the hapag job they smashed the price not cut it then subbied it out to others
if you have 100 trucks making £10 profit per truck that ok to your big playes but a man with 1 or 4 etc it aint is it, so as for cutting corners etc the big players after dictate what they want and are going to pay, right or wrong
I mentioned cutting corners you mentioned cutting rates, but isn’t the idea of the licensing system to create fair competition as well as safety.
So one haulier runs for 13 hours per day relying on a relatives card to nip in and out of the dock. another haulier has to park up at Karl Routs place and run into Felixstowe the next morning. He may be on £1.40 per mile, but he is going to earn a lot more £1.40’s than the bloke parking up after 9 hours driving.
I don’t know who Wibble is, or what he has to do with this reply
with all this rubbish it makes you wonder what the point of even applying for cpc and a o licence no matter if you run bent or by the book the rules dont realy come into it half the time .
no doubt the fines for running without cpc and o licence are less that what some are getting for running dodgy hours

That is probably correct, if you are not in the club, you do not have to wear a club tie
However my old boss tried this and spent 9 months in Thorpe Arch RIP Bill

But you’ll make a lot more £1.40’s by walking away from the boxes work (where they’ll just give you the dregs sub 300 km runs which the rail freight lot don’t want) and finding some decent full load long distance international runs and keep the wheels turning (within the rules) for around 600kms per day at £1.00 per mile instead of trying to make a living on a job where you’ll spend probably as much time with the tacho ticking away on ‘other work’ while trying to make a living on the few driving hours which that leaves you out of the working day and those few miles which the rail interests want you to run.But in reply to scottish cruiser’s comments it is possible to undercut rates AND make a ‘decent’ living depending on your circumstances and how much you need to live on.IE take a mortgage/rent out of the equation, which some of us have’nt got,and having enough money in the bank to pay for a wagon outright with no repayments, then East European rates for the job don’t seem so bad and survival without running bent in a rate cutting environment is a viable proposition.

If you’re running bent, you’re running bent. End of. If you can’t make it pay legally, don’t bother. How hard is it? The fact you think it’s ok speaks volumes about what’s wrong with haulage!
