I can recall a company I’am certain based in the Cheshire area with the rather unusual name of Twibell or something similar , they once featured in Truck magazine , whatever happened to them or what’s their up to date history or information .
I remember Twibell but I thought they were from Barnsley, if memory serves the vehicles and trailers were red and the had a few Spanish dodges

They did have Spanish Dodges but I thought Cheshire also as they had trailers dropped in Appleton Thorn trading estate and used to see them in Warrington regular at McGregor Cory?

You are on the money with the washing powder as that is what they stored at Appleton Thorn I think and also may have seen them in Unilever’s Crossfields site in Warrington which I think has now closed?
Edit, I think the shunter at Appleton Thorn was a Spanish Dodge, it would have been around 1997 ish.
Remember seeing them around in the 90s , based in Mobberley ,they seem to have gone out of business around 2002/8 due to the loss of their main contract . Not sure as the report is vague .
twibell were bought out by james irlam from chelford.cheshire who were in turn bought out by eddie stobart,i think most of their work was out of proctor and gamble.
DEANB:
Twibell Spanish Dodge.
That’s a memory jerker, Dean! I think they had a few of these. In the late 80s and early 90s, at Bowker we had a fleet of liveried contract hire vehicles with BASF at Walton Summit, and Twibell had traditionally carried for BASF out of their U.K. HQ at Cheadle. Over time, their Cheadle work declined and, when BASF closed the warehouse at Walton Summit and (if I remember rightly) converted Cheadle to be only a sales location, all of the work transferred into Bowker’s warehousing.
I do recall that they worked for P&G at Trafford Park, but I’d forgotten that they sold out to James Irlam & Sons. I think the business was in decline, though, with an ageing fleet. In fact, the one in Paul’s photo isn’t exactly a great advert!
Twibell were from mobberley but mainly ran from p&g at Trafford park, they were not taken over by Irlams but lost the p&g contract and I believe that was 70% of there work so were forced to pack up
Statement from Manchester Evening Newspaper 'at the time
MORE than 100 people have been made redundant at family run haulage business in Trafford Park after it lost a multi-million pound contract.
W P Twibell and Sons was forced to call in administrators after consumer products giant Proctor and Gamble decided to end a long-standing business relationship. No one at Proctors has been available for comment.
Twibell managing director Chris Twibell, whose grandfather William Parkin started the business more than 70 years ago, said the loss of the contract was a great shock.
Mr Twibell said the business with Proctor and Gamble was worth £4m, and with company turnover around £7m, there was no alternative but to call in the administrators.

Which explains why I didn’t remember it! Thank you
