Out of curiosity, do you need a TV licence for your truck?
I found out, that our yard one does not cover us, looking to see if my home one does. I hope so, as I can imagine it would be another great way to target the hard working truck driver.
I haven’t even got one for the house one, never mind the truck
Just as an example of how crazy the system is, up until about 18 months ago I hadn’t had a TV licence for 8 years but eventually I got nobbled and got a £350 fine. You work out the figures; seems like a cracking deal to me does that
Fwiw, I’ve no intention of getting one either. My sincere apologies to the do-gooders who will - I’m sure - be fuming at this
The Wife joined that pay as you view scheme, £10 a month or summit like that, she finally got a letter off them in May telling her to stop paying as she was around £350 in credit, dozy Sod had only been paying it weekly Lol

You may use the T.V licence you have for your home but only if you live alone as they say nobody can be using the T.V in your home if you are not there.
If you do not live alone and there is sombody in your residence while you are away in your truck then you must buy a separate licence for the truck.
I found this out from the horses mouth whilst parked up on fleet services one night and the detector van was going round and knocking up drivers watching Tele in their cabs.
I asked how they could tell ifyou lived alone or not and was told they check the elactoral roll on their laptops!
glad to see our money’s not being wasted
(of course all the above does not apply if you are called Rob and you love twingo’s )

Crikey . My favourite saying, "haven’t you got owt else better to do " would come in here for sure.

The fine’s are cheaper than the cost of the licence though
I think the TV licence is one of the biggest rip off’s you have back there. When a vast majority watch sky TV and very few the BBC I consider it extortion to make you pat a company if you use them or not. BBC America get no licence fee, they advertise and so they should in the UK.

Sorry Sean but that is wrong and has been a popular misconception among drivers for years. While it is true you need a second licence if you have a second home, static caravan or mobile home, you do not for any touring caravan vehicle or boat.
This question came up a long time ago on the old boards and I emailed the TV Licence people and they replied saying you didn’t need one for a truck, provided of course you have one at home, and regardless of whether the TV at home was being watched by anyone. If the TV in the truck was your only TV then you would need a licence. It appears the people you encountered at Fleet Services didn’t know their own regulations. Checking whether you lived alone by the Electoral Register wouldn’t work as it is never 100% up to date and thousands of people are not even on it, I wasn’t on it for years.
The information can also be found on the TV Licence website at www.tvlicensing.co.uk and the relevant section is below.
Mobile homes and caravans
If you or any other person uses a TV in your static caravan or mobile home and another is being used in your main home at the same time, you’ll need a separate TV Licence.
However, if a TV isn’t being used in your static caravan or mobile home at the same time as in your home, you don’t need a separate TV Licence. In which case you’ll just need to complete a declaration form.
The TV Licence for your main address will, however, automatically cover any TV used in a touring caravan, vehicle or boat, or any televisions operated by their own internal batteries.
Well, I for one, am glad that Coffeholic has found a definite answer and the relevant wording. I do recall a few years back that TV licencing had a real go at Truckers and many got fined, the comparison being quoted was that of students away from home. Yes, I now know the authorities were wrong, as per usual, but the bad decisions stay with you, don’t they??

I’m sorry Neil but maybe I’m just being dubm but doesn’t that quote back up what I was saying (in a roundabout way)
Especially the first paragraph with the emphassis on the last line of the paragraph
When I first got a flat, many years ago, I got several TV’s on one month trials, after about 3 months a guy came to the door asking if I had a TV licence, I told him the TV was on trial and it was not used due to me being away a lot, so I was going to return it. The man went away and never came back, I kept the TV
It clearly states that you do not need a licence for a touring caravan, vehicle or boat. A truck is a vehicle so it doesn’t require one.
The last line in the first paragraph is referring to static vans and mobile homes, not vehicles.
The email I got from the TV Licence people also stated a truck didn’t require one, I’ve looked for the mail but it was ages ago and I don’t have it anymore.[/b]
