TV in truck advice please

hi there.

I have been looking into getting a TV for my truck. Seen the bracket on ebay that will hold it and they have said it will hold up to a 24 inch tv.

I will mainly be wanting to stream films / netflix / etc but may watch the odd bit of tv ( smart tv may be an idea or something to put a firestick into it )

I will list a few questions is someone could kindly answer for me.

  1. I have a 230v inverter in my truck ( i think its that anyway ). I am better getting a 24v tv or a normal tv ?

  2. i am obsessed with the fear of a flat battery since having one go on me a while ago and having to call my gaffa in the early hours  … so with this in mind am i better using a 24v tv, normal tv, or i have seen cello do a battery powered solar one.

  3. how long can you run a tv for without having to worry if your truck will start in the morning ?

thanks in advance.

Not sure about bracket as I just stand mine on the dash, a smart TV is a good choice but another option if just streaming Netflix could be a laptop and download what you want each week. I’d avoid a 24v tv expensive and just no need, I use a 24v 300w inverter.
As for batteries it depends how good they are, I can easily have my tv on for 5 hours without issue.

I would first check what the 240v TV says it’ll use and add 50% for good measure. Then check the inverter for its continuous (not peak) rating.

Add 50% to the TV rating and that’s the min continuous rating for the inverter to give headroom.

On the 240 vs 24 - personally I’d also vote 240 simply because anything 24v will be “specialist” and thus attract a stupid price tag. A bit like 12v ones are for caravans and thus add a premium.

Decent inverters have undervoltage protection for the battery to prevent it going too low. Colder the weather, the shorter the time.

Some fancier TVs might want a “sine wave” inverter ratyer than “modified sine wave”. They are more expensive but output a cleaner AC voltage.

Finally, I would ask the boss about mounting and connecting the arial. Most won’t want you drilling holes, but might let the garage do it.
