Turners bulk powder

Does anyone work for Turners doing the bulk powders, or recently worked for them. i have searched this forum but the only posts regarding pay, hours etc was from about 9 years ago. Got a job interview with them but would just like to know what to expect so it don’t come too much of a good/bad surprise.

Pay is terrible. On a good week you might clear £550 all in with N/O money on 4 nights out.

A crap week is £420. All depends how busy we are, because if we’re not, you not only lose hours but also productivity pay. The productivity pay is what makes the rubbish rate of pay adequate. The pay system is far too complex if you ask me, but if you work on the basis of £420 to £550 a week plus parking going into your bank, you won’t be far wrong.

Weekly pay, all parking paid (but you pay first). They will be wanting you to go Belgium and France, as there’s far to many of us who won’t go for an extra £6 a day so they’ve started making it a condition of employment.

They mostly leave you alone, but the planners on powder are Barclays bankers. Basic DAF 85 motors, but you get your own if you’re tramping.

Any other questions?

So the crap week of 420 is that take home or gross pay. I thought it was cement powder in the uk. Ive seen them advertising for food grade ttrampers to go to northern france aswell as uk, is that a different contract or do you have to do both. Take it you work for them.

Chatting to one of there’s on the boat and he was going to jack in he had only earnt £63 in two days because he said his load wasn’t ready and he had to wait

Surely he would of still got his basic pay, or would have been told of the delay if he had to wait 2 days to get loaded.

Wow tankers is less than reefers, the pay scale sounds very similar to people on boxes out of Felixstowe. Siting traffic all day and only do 1 drop, you’ll be on rubbish money, clear roads and 3/4 drops or 2/3 loads and your laughing all the way to the bank.

Makes me glad of my day rate (which when worked out is a crap hourly most days)

Yeah it’s a f*king joke. We can go and do boxes or reefers but they can’t easily come and do our work, yet we get paid less.

I’ve worked for Turners, I don’t speak Polish.

Also, out of the 5 drivers in our depot at the time, 4 were English, 1 was Polish. They now have a lot more drivers there and I think there’s still only 1 Polish driver there.

My managers were both English, as were my planners.

He must have just had the hump with Turners then, I’m only saying what he told me, but he wasn’t very keen on anyone there, English or not. Sounded like a ■■■■ job to me.

Vaguely remember the belgium bloke. Remember Richard not very well but he also worked at CO op at sevenoaks with me on the agency. That was sad, if i remember right she started to improve then dropped like a stone. Remember little kevin the goerdie night shunter, light the fuse and let him go.
