I see quite a few Turks on the UK roads, but noticed small engine sizes and small cabs, for such a long distance of a six day drive to get to Turkey, you would want a bigger truck.
They use Renault Premiums, Ford,Daf CF,s,no space cabs.
If you see a Turkish driver, he will cook a three course meal from a kitchen in the side of the trailer, they will offer tea or coffee, it is rude to refuse their offer.
I have seen Ivecos with a flat roof cab, that looked like a day cab,but must of had a bunk six inches wide, like an ex car transporter.
They seem happy with their lot, years ago , they used to drive wearing suits, not a Mmtm, shiny suits with jackets and shiny trousers.
We have alot of turks come to our gaff toby, axor and cf are their favourites motors ,none seem to have the air con pods on the roof either ,its about 50/50 with who wears the cheap shell suit and flip flops or like you said dressed up like their off to a wedding, they are allways very coutious and happy, one jumped up jobsworth security person said one of them stunk of beer so he rang the polce, the police came and made him blow in the bag,he blew a green,it turned out the driver had been eating cuscus with a drop of pernod in it for flavour

Curtious i meant to say ,not coutious
used to see them parked up in(very basic looking 1970’s looking) cabover kenworths not that long ago
I guess they are just happy with there lot, so to speak.
Daf cf’s, Merc axors and similar do seem quite normal, and at the other end of the scale you do see some nice tidy Globetrotters and the like, (EKOL springs to mind.)
I’ve always found the Turks a polite and friendly bunch on the road, always happy to share a meal with you, and attempt a conversation, and they always seem to have abit of everything in them trailer lockers. If they are happy and earning a decent wage, good luck to em.
TBH, think they prob have it better than the Poles and others who work for De Rooy in those pokey looking transporters, away for weeks at a time, especially in the ones that have bits of the cab cut off, just for that tiny bit of extra load space.
Perhaps some steering wheel attendants could learn some lessons from them .
Noticed they often have specifications you would see only rarely on a Brit motor, such as the 480 engine in a narrow cab MAN, TGS?
Maybe they are more weight critical than other countries, but never seem to be tearing about, nor trying to rip your mirrors off either.
To be honest cabs are getting a bit silly now, more room and cubbies inside than some modern build rabbit hutches people call home.

And they have to find space to store that massive dish to pick up turkish tele thats usually taped on the mirror arm…if they are lucky enough to have a xf its not a superspace, its same with all the different truck cabs they live in ,tackle us lads turns our nose up to do shop work in
bare in mind they have kitchen boxes on the trailers and tend to scoff al fresco. as like you toby have spent a few evenings with the captains at there hospitality
They will dine by the trailer in all weathers, if it is raining, they will put a trailer side board up inside the trailer curtain to make a shelter to cook up their meal.
They never rush around, no point with the distances they cover, I see MARS and EKOL and there is a large depot with a Turkish transport firm, and I have seen about 100 Turkish trucks in there on rest periods and waiting for reloads back home.
Davies Turner at Dartford and Bristol, quite a few there.
The depot is in Coventry near the stadium on the industrial estate with Halfords Rdc.
Baltrans or Balktrans, I can’t remember.
it’s not what they like, it’s what the gaffer will buy. axors and narrowcab MANs are built locally, thus cheaper than an imported truck. I knew an owner-driver who worked for a factory in Izmir where I used to load backloads to scandinavia from, he surely had an XXL cabbed MAN.

Have they stopped making them ? That will be the reason Argos have all them new 64 plate basic Actros units then ! Everybody has their own likes and dislikes, for me I love the Actros better than any other truck, but the Axor is the worst truck by far. I know it may be ‘no frills’ but I don’t think they are safe to even drive. To me, all the Axor did was drag the overall brand of Mercedes down. They wouldn’t make a car similar to Matiz so why lower themselves to make such a dire truck ! I drove one the other week for a local container company, the chassis is that bad that the trailer weight seems to dictate the overall ride and the brakes are completely inedaquate !!!

Glad I’m not the only one who thinks that, I nearly rolled one over once, luckily the trailer saved me…

Yes they have, what Argos, Sainsbury, tossco etc now have its what’s replaced them, no idea what they’re like to drive but they look very cramped & uncomfortable like the axor, mirrors look weird too because the cabs are narrow:evil:

Think about the poor turks having to drive and live in the chuffing things 24/7
and you guys complain about only pulling 44t with one
The De Rooy cabs do look painfully small to be in for weeks on end.
Nice that pimped Axor
Not really a Turkish delight in my opinion. I think ‘■■■■■■’ would be more accurate than ahola…
Hmm…it appears my slight alteration of ahola has been intercepted by the PC mafia.
