Truckmate satnav rip off map charges

Bought a truckmate s7000 couple of years ago and did a £85 map update in Nov 2011, just had a look and it is saying there is a new map out for my unit and yes they want another £85 to update it. I know the roads dont change that often but it has all the truck specific info in the mapping too, ie, truck stops, bridges, truck no gos etc… anyone know i way of putting maps onto these units from another source, ie tom tom truck or similar?? rant over Cheers!

I think this has been covered recently by another user. Contact the company and explain and they should cut you a deal.

I’ve got the 6000 and I’ve had it over 6 months now but less than a year. Not sure if would do anything for me but I was quite annoyed after buying it that I had to fork out another £30 or so for the speed camera updates!!!

However. Still worth keeping updated but even so it is still a viable and good satnav, despite map updates. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Sounds like they are ripping you off for updates!

I have TomTom XL and which came with one free update after 3 months and an optional further year of updates for £29.90 which is 4 complete map updates. Speed camera updates for UK cost £9.99 for a year and this updates almost every week.
There are free POI’s to add low bridges and weight limits to make it suitable for truck use.

hmm i aint updated my snooper s7000 since i bought it way back in july 2010 lol…mayby i should get round to it :S

According to their website map updates for the Snooper Truckmate S7000 are £99.99 which does seem a bit steep, but it is clearly marked on their website so I don’t see a rip-off to be honest.

It’s up-to people to check out these things before buying the products

I can only suggest that you go to either Navitotal.com or Gpsunderground.com and ask if it’s possible to update the map on the Truckmate S7000, I’ve just seen a post that suggests it uses the “IGO Primo” operating system so you may be lucky.

Sorry I can’t be of more help but I use a Tomtom for which map updates are freely available

I used my tom tom for 5 years without updating it and it never let me down. I only stopped using it because the touchscreen developed a fault. Just how often do roads get built?

I don’t have satnav, snooper, etc, still do the job without them. Whats wrong with looking at a map or an A to Z?
I can understand why you need help when your new to the job, but if you’ve done it for a year or two why do you need to pay for an update ■■ The roads hav’nt changed that much in the last few years. Ps. wonder where I put my flak jacket and WW2 tin hat. :imp: :imp:   regards kevmac47.

haha kev mac, good point but i am still relatively new to driving and i just find it easier to navigate to the town/city by my directional skills then use sat nav to take me the last 10 miles or so…
the map updates are £84.99 each or a lifetime one off for £139.99 which they have only just bought this option in at the start of this year. Rang them today and expained i only updated end of last year and they said because of this they would offer me to pay the difference between the 85 i have paid and the 140, so bit the bullet and paid the extra 55 quid but least now i can have the most up to date maps etc…which i need as i do continetial work quite often but even snooper hasnt got kosovo on full street plan yet  .

tachograph, i understand we have to look into prices etc but snooper fail to tell you on there website that they update there map packages twice a year! 170 quid until they bought out the lifetiome update. That to me is a rip off

I understand what your saying about being new to the job,and its a great help to you. I have always found if I followed some one to a new job I had difficulty finding the place the next time I needed to get there again. Good luck to you. Regards Kev.

For that sort of money it’s almost better to be looking to buy a new one every so often. :open_mouth:

With the Snooper if I want to goto Europe I could just order the memory card for Europe and drop it in my device, or get a brand new one, but the price difference is quite a bit. £280 for a device, £80 for the card…

With mine I update the speed cameras and anything else I can but if they want to charge me for map updates I might have a thing to say about that, more along the lines I won’t pay. The device is up to date now in my eyes. In perhaps a year or mores time if I then want to do another update, and then pay then I’ll think about it. Can’t afford it right now and don’t even use it enough. But it’s good for the trucking side of things, when I actually get out there on the road, you know

I’ve got a tomtom truck 7100. When I was updating my files last week it told me my map was not the latest one and I could have 4 quarterly updates for £129!!! WTF!
I used to have a go 500 and you could have the latest updates for £29 a year - I didn’t mind paying that as it was always handy when roads were changing and new houses being built. But £129 is absolutely scandalous and I will be looking to my android tab/ phone / laptop etc to get me around.
At least ■■■■ Turpin wore a mask!!

Ive got a s7000 and when bought was sposed to have free lifetime updates for maps and pay for cameras. I had one free update but now seems that i have to pay. As for the argument of satnav over paper maps I guess it depends where you go. Also It does save alot of time usually (except when it takes you to a 3.5 m bridge with no where to turn round or like last week when I ended up at a 3.5t bridge over a belgium canal, neither showed up my satnav).
