Ash, do you know if Andrews and Bond became Central ? Just spotted a pic on another site, and it rings a bell, Im sure they changed their name when they started to sink.My dad had left well by then and went to Transfreeze.

mate. the only Central i know was Central Road Transport from Somerset.

yes…i know this isnt an 80’s photo, but im saving the best Central pics from that era, for another night :frowning: Probably do a “SouthWest” companies therme.
**routier:**do you hav anymore info on your Central. eg: location livery, etc etc:? and can you put on here, the “other site” you saw the pic on, so i can see pelase

Hey Ash,didnt central tpt take over Crewkerne transport and Axminster
transport ■■ im sure there was a tie up somewhere, either that or some
of the drivers that were on Axminsters left and worked for Central and
Crewkerne tpt .Anyone remember Cliff Luxton ?

Harry: Great pics of the Partricks ERF  I see its still got their livery on. Whats your connection there? did you work for um?

And the White RoadCommander looks “out of the box”, all squeaky clean and sparkling.
I never drove one, but was passenger a few times. Like sitting in a dustbin :frowning:
but massive bed! And big “throaty” CAT 350 engine.

This question for everyone really: Should i do a “Yanks in the UK” theme?
By that i mean, US motors run by UK companies on International work.
Harry, you have a PM.

Fantastic pics especially Ian Mckellars 141,s’ remember them motors well.Big Arthur had DHJ 123T when i first started there in 86, the 141s had all gone by the time i got me class 1 in 89 so had to do with a 142, shame!

We was probably working there at the same time Daz, I had the unwritten white 112 with the coach diff and did the Vacenza run with the welsh fella[/l

Left after one of Mckellars famous sell offs, (first trucks back went along with whoever drove them) in 94,the welsh lad must have been Blodders

ash, a book i have (and probably you too) mentions that MUR501H was driven on it’s first Teheran by an engineer from Scammell called Howard Barnes - presume it’s true but did the “regular” driver mention it?

Wasn’t Howard Barnes the Sales Director or something for Scammell & raced a factory backed S26 in the late 80’s, i’m sure that was his name??

thanks for the info pal.
i didnt know that…but would be very interested to learn more.
can anyone tell me where i can get a copy of the book?
havnt had time to speak to Gordon Pearce about it yet but wen i do, ill post his answer straight away.
[/quote]

Just had a chat with Gordon but the news isnt good :frowning:
He doesnt remember Howard Barnes.
“We were like ships in the night” he said. “You didnt know who was where, or who was driving what. I’d be on a return trip and someone i’d never seen before was on the way out. Some of the blokes only lasted a couple of weeks, lost the bottle and got a lift home”.

oh well, the mystery of Howard Barnes continues…

Hello Ash,

I remember the 2 North West Freighters, used to load out of McCains Scarboro regular,

Anyone remember a company from North Lodon called Freighters, used to have 88’s in a light brown/tan colour? would be late 70,s

Ron

Ash, the book is King of the Road by Bob Tuck - wouldn’t like to say what the true story is, his photos are excellent but his captions can be a bit, erm, flakey shall we say?
