O/D name of Pat had a great big beard seem to remember that he had a rear extension on his F88 but not sure about roof, used to do M/E and Eastern Europe so strong possibility its DT
Pat Seal - utterer of the immortal line to 2 greenhorns “I’ve a tin of beans in me sidelocker as has done more miles than thee” Don’t know whether he ran for DTs though, maybe indirectly
First up we have the day I delivered to a dried up river bed (IIRC) near Udine, Italy.
The pilings I’d delivered were to be used for diverting the river. There was a strange looking delivery address on the CMR
Next is the Merc I drove when doing Vienna and Milan for Davies Turner.
I took this pic in 1988 somewhere near Munich.

Excellent post definatley gets my vote, keep up the good work.In answer to your question not to sure but think the F88 was run by an O/D name of Pat had a great big beard seem to remember that he had a rear extension on his F88 but not sure about roof, used to do M/E and Eastern Europe so strong possibility its DT ,sure some of the old boys on those routes would know.Would not have liked to have had to tilt the cabs and worked underneath either of them.
ZULU1512: thanks for your comments. You are half right mate. Pat did have a Volvo. But not the one in question. His was an old 240 on a N plate, in blue. He did have an xtension, but not up, just back.
Cant beleive no one knows who had these two trucks
They are SO distinctive. Oh well, keep tryin…
heres another tester lads: how bout this one then?
S Portors from Barnet Herts had this 111 4x2 from new: LVW 923V
Then…(and I can only assume ) …it went to G HOEY who had the tag axle and the roof bits put on.
Now shes lookin good!
Then…i reckon he sold it on…
( Lookin better with the 141 badge? or not as the case my be )
to buy this BEAUTY!
check out that cab extension…up AND back! Got to be the best lookin 142 around? Im thinkin its an x Russell Davies motor.
So…my question tonight is: Who and where is G HOEY now?
Anyone know?
And if these 2 pics of his trucks dont jog ya memorys, i think i got photos of his earlier truck too. Watch this space.
How about a theme night? Tonight is: SCANIA.
But dont worry for all you others who “arnt that keen” on the MIGHTY Swede, ill do a different truck next time ay?
One of Gloucestershires finest fleets!
And another…
Geoff Gilberts imaculate fleet always attracted my cameras attention but im
not so sure that ill be taking any more pics, as he’s running plain white Renault Premiums now. Sorry Geoff.
Anyone remember the smart blue and white Bannon and Ward fleet from Dewsbury? Used to see them in Italy all the time.
And what about Barry Read’s fridges!
And finally a couple of classic 3 axle tractors plus 2 axle traliers. Typical 80’s 38 tons.
Daz:
Fantastic pics especially Ian Mckellars 141,s’ remember them motors well.Big Arthur had DHJ 123T when i first started there in 86, the 141s had all gone by the time i got me class 1 in 89 so had to do with a 142, shame!
We was probably working there at the same time Daz, I had the unwritten white 112 with the coach diff and did the Vacenza run with the welsh fella

Geoff himself doesnt have much to do with the day to day running of the co.
Fleet still looking good, except as i said before, they got sum Renault Premiums just not my kinda truck…
if its roadtrain themed night, could that include the leyland cabbed scammel(s75 or summat)?which could lead nicely to a crusader?brs ran some on m/e,but not sure if that was 70s? …oh,in a previous ramble i asked if any hales from liverpool pics, wrong name entirely,it was thorburns im thinkin of again astounded n impressed wi the pics

As far as I know,Geoff has been retired to Spain for several years now,his sons run the company.
Still see their Scania’s and Volvo’s over here,I think they still do the chocolate job from Switzerland too.
I remember that 141 wagon & drag very well, and I believe it’s the only drawbar they’ve ever run, though I expect someone will kindly correct me if I’m wrong

ill dig out some Thorburn.
I was only joking when i suggested a Roadtrain theme
but just for you whooshwoosh, ive spent the last day and a half searchin through my pics…
not one of my fave trucks, but heres a few specially for you
enjoy the :“LEYLAND ROAD JOKE”…up by road…back by train !
and heres the Scammell cabbed version. This particular truck was a demo and was also used by H C Wilson from Suffolk on heavy haulage duties.
and to finish, a Crusader run by BRS. Yes they did do M/E in these, but not sure if this particular vehicle went. I think this photo is by Peter Davies. Not one of mine.
Crusader theme is strong possiblity , so is Volvo F88/89

jessicas dad:
how about some of the european lads on here having a wander and taking pic’s of modern day uk trucks waitng for the ferries or the train.
in years to come it would be interesting … well even now it would be good to see them.
No pics jd,but the one’s I’ve seen over here in France & Belgium the last couple of weeks include:
J.W.Devanney from Leeds, see them quite often.
Houseman International,from Leeds/Bradford area,used to see them a lot.
Montgomery Transport,English reg.
Neill & Brown from Hull.
R.Swain from Rochester,usually in Belgium & Holland.
Carr Bros.
Birds.
TNT
Gardner European, usually see them going past Genk.
S&J Pierce
and Belkin.
The smart silver Scania’s of Belkin are becoming a regular sight, not sure if they are own account or run by someone else, but they have a Wellingborough address on the side.
A sad sign of the times when it’s now such a rarity to see a British truck over here.
An even sadder sign when that British truck is driven by an east european!
