Hi Robert. That’s one of Rynarts from Klundert with one of their Fiats. They used to run down to the Philips factory in Karachi during the 70s.
As i said it the post about Afghan Int we looked at Macks as well as DAFs.One of the reasons we choose DAFs was patriotic but people also spoke to Henk Rynart about Macks as they were the biggest Company in Holland using them.He was critical about them saying ''We always send a FIAT with the Macks through Southern Iran so they can collect all the bits the fall off the Macks.
Cheers for that Hutpik! Now turning to Mercedes, if I had to drive one again I’d go for one like this: Robert

Just occurred to me on International work back in the late 70’s and 80’s we always had red running lights fitted in the cab for driving at night, this we still fitted in FH’s in the 90’s but does any one fit them nowadays or was that a Mary Hopkins thing, another craze was dream catchers which super seeded the international flag strips and of course the Michelin man on the wing mirrors (Bibendum) or what ever he was called, cheers Buzzer.
Buzzer, just been given a 105 daf that has red lights factory fitted.

The Scania 141 ROO 107W was bought 6 months old, I think it belonged to Tanker Bill?
It is Dutch built with carpets, seat belts and sprung cab. Ran on 1200 x 20`s most of the time.
Always good for double figure fuel consumption !
It did Greece for Velos for a long time, as well as Galaxy Caravans from Preston to Spain.
Some of the Lucas International permit allocation went to Ashline Trucking of Chadwell st Mary, who remembers them?
Les Merton was driving when the picture was taken, always nice to wear out someone elses trailer when you got the chance.
Lady Amanda was his wife who sadly passed away last year.
I’m Les mertons daughter, would be good to catch up. It’s great seeing old pics of the wagon.
My Dad passed away in July 2013, he would have loved this forum.

We have red lights fitted above the clutch peddle in our KW’s, it’s not something I would have thought of, but it makes a big difference to night time driving.

I can confirm that, drove them in Western Australia
from Perth upto Mt Newman a massive open iron ore mining operation. Very rarely made a trip without something breaking, best trucks we had were the KWs. but as a pommy ■■■■■■■ I had to stick with a Mack…
Shoshaye:
I had a merc actors that hag green night lights in the cab. Most scanias have red lights as standard.
This DAF (looking shiny here on the day I picked her up) was the last ! I had with a red light in the cab, in the roof by the curtain track between cab/sleeper, had a switch on dash flick down for main interior lights or up for the red night-light, good little 1 just gave a nice gentle glow in the cab , got a Scania now & it hasn’t got 1 . Seen some blokes paint the white lenses on the main interior light plastic covers red, that OK but you don’t want that lighting on a night-out all the time. like sitting in a knocking-shop all night , (so I’ve been told Regards Chris
This used to come in a green bottle, cost 50p a litre, sweet, fizzy and not a grape near it!
Now it’s got a posh name, label and cool coloured bottle, sells for 3€ here…god knows what in the UK.
Good marketting for a product that was unknown outside of Italy, except to us!
newmercman:
Vino frizzante with dinner = paracetamol for breakfast.
Which is why prosecco is best at breakfast time. Vino tinto collapso for dinner, but remember to turn the gas off. Red sky at night = driver’s lorry alight. Robert
I’m inclined to agree newmercman, a good Barolo or Barbera di Asti (at a reasonable price) can be difficult to find.
However I am still inclined to slurp the 84cent/bottle stuff (Aldi) for ever day use! Doesn’t hurt after either.
newmercman:
I used to enjoy those tetra pak cartons of vino tinto, a few hundred ptas for a litre didn’t hurt either.
I’m a bit more civilised now, a nice Barolo is more my thing.
I used to get 3 cartons of Don Simon vino collapso for under a quid in the late '90s. Usually picked it up at Dunn’s or Lidl’s in Fungerola or from Continenti (later to become Carrefour) in Algeciras, on my way down to Morocco. Happy days. Robert
I used to bring a bottles and bottles of Frizz back from Italy during the summer time and flog them to my mates. Every BBQ had a few crates of ice cold Frizz! Lovely stuff
