Fantastic rendition John Byrne, I hope you have loads more stuff to tell. You can write what you like on here ( in the guide lines of the forum ) if any one pulls you up on it you can just say was another drivers tale. Most of the guys on here have had similar experiences during the same time period, so we can relate to what you’re saying…
adr… ah yes the joys of groupage, just when you have spent the latter part of the week running round the whole country doing 15 collections they call you into the warehouse last thing Friday evening, take it all of and swap it onto other trucks.

Jeff…
Hi Jeff, sends a shiver down your spine thinking about it , but you also allow yourself a little grin too, because although you didn’t look at it that way at the time, it was all a great adventure Regards Chris

Just a random pic, but they are all memories for someone, so worth putting on Regards Chris

He talked the talk but did he walk the walk Regards Chris
I remember seeing something similar to that getting about Manchester one day, then a couple of days later I saw it up near Aberdeen. He always did the left right, left right indicator thing.
He got past me as I was cresting a hill in my Globbie, then I took of down the other side… I’m sure I heard his valves bouncing.
I was talking to a bloke at Truckfest one day who had CF van that was done like that, he always wanted to be a truck driver since he was a boy, but had a heart problem so a car license was the all he was allowed. I suggested that he should go and see on of those fast freight companies, and do the 7 1/2 ton thing. A few years later I met him at Irun. He had a ■■■■■■■ powered Leyland Road Runner, sleeper cab, towing a trailer, and a grin from ear to ear.

I worked with a bloke on PJL who had a custom Transit, I never saw it but it could be this one.
He kept 100quid a week out of his wages to spend on the lorry or his Transit, he had one of those Aussie screen guards and all manner of crap nailed on his lorry (an F12 Globetrotter)
We used to do Italy, Austria and Poland, so I thought of this bloke as soon as I saw the Frejus sticker, I think his name was Paul.
Dutch Mack, more from the 70s maybe, but could have still been rolling in the 80s Rare Mack in this configuration so thought it worth a look Regards Chris
Hi Robert. That’s one of Rynarts from Klundert with one of their Fiats. They used to run down to the Philips factory in Karachi during the 70s.
As i said it the post about Afghan Int we looked at Macks as well as DAFs.One of the reasons we choose DAFs was patriotic but people also spoke to Henk Rynart about Macks as they were the biggest Company in Holland using them.He was critical about them saying ''We always send a FIAT with the Macks through Southern Iran so they can collect all the bits the fall off the Macks.

A close friend of mine retired from Dreier last week spent the last 12 years doing Morocco for them, all MAN now.
Just occurred to me on International work back in the late 70’s and 80’s we always had red running lights fitted in the cab for driving at night, this we still fitted in FH’s in the 90’s but does any one fit them nowadays or was that a Mary Hopkins thing, another craze was dream catchers which super seeded the international flag strips and of course the Michelin man on the wing mirrors (Bibendum) or what ever he was called, cheers Buzzer.
