I didn’t think anyone else did the £25 for 6 months car tax ‘sketch’!!

Ross.

PS, always attatch the cotton to the far side of the holder, (I believe) it came away from the screen easier. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Thats why the lhd was a better truck however a proper cowboy would have had a 2000 lt belly tank and a 400 lt running tank and a 300 lt tank of white which could last all year, oh and i forgot the best bit a big pocket full of cash …allegedgly

As I said cowboy’s, YIPPPPPY HI HAY.

You forgot the marine pump & hose that used to be known as the diesel card.

Very responsible, no wonder truckies have a bad name.

We had a sense of humour on the 80s too!

I heard that a JCB hydraulic pump would do 25gals a minute, so it would, in theory, drain a 400ltr tank in just over three minutes :open_mouth:

My dad had a broken tacho, so he used to carry a new cable with him and told the Gendarmes he’d get it fixed when he returned to England. Got away with it for months

I arrived home from Milan once if that’s any good and yes I did come from Macclesfield to our house a few times.

I remember Frerry Freighting we pulled for them in the late 70s and early 80s Russel Littlejohn ran it they had a office in Milan the drivers then were Jimmy and i can`t think of the other two i think they were brothers.

truckerash:
nice to read all the chat lads. bringin back a few good memories for me.
time to put a few more pics on then:
heres one for you Ian, Promotor F12 with a South African driver, if I remember correctly, his name was George.

Heres the Hercock roadtrain “Roman” in his F12

and how many of you knew Hercocks did a bit of heavy haulage?

this is how Hercocks ended up for those who didnt recognise the Derby and White name

Leggetts was another regular i used to see. Was amusing to see the Volvo F12’s and f89’s “waiting” for the SLACK ATKI’s to catch up!
dont know where this was taken, reckon it was somewhere in Swiss.
Anyone have a clue?

and now a few more to jog yer memories…
who remembers FERRY FRIGHTNING ?

Swains with a French reg 111 and Martintrux, night shot at Dover

Early David Croome F12 especially for JJ72. Croomy had a Mack, ill have to sort that 1 out and post it if anyones interested?

and finally one of my favorite outfits, PATRICKS. They always had top o the range kit. This F88 wagon and drag is a cracker!
now owned by Rogers who have also recently taken KENTVALE over as well.

so, am i putting too many photos on here? Do you guys want to see more?
Or should I be thinking about a book…[/b]

Great pics,

David

Hi all, Just found this thread now I have time being retired. Interesting to see the French reg Swains as I worked for them in their Western Roadways International guise in the Eighties. Seeing the pics of Mont Blanc and the road up to it brought back so many memories. Also Mont Cenis and how narrow it was. I used to tell young lads when going up the ski slope how the way down used to be two way and the fun we had. My Cerdon with the very “friendly” Shell garage at the bottom. Claudes in Pont d’ Ain. The bus stop in Bourg before it got ruined by stupid English guys fighting after they did away with permits. The Bakehouse, Jayat when the old lady ran it and many more. The stories about Prato in the old days made me chuckle. Some idiot ran into me on that roundabout one night. Left shoes in one truck, right shoes in another. I had a great job for a while 1 ton of rolls of foam out to Milan, reload rolls of material outside Prato in brand new factory with top shower etc then top up with groupage from Florence. Can’t remember the company name but I used to go to Enterprise at Swanley. I really enjoyed that job. Driving overnight far too fast up the autostrada to Genoa and up to Aosta to get through the last peage before the police started next morning. Steak and salad in the pub at Bourg, park up on the N6 Saturday night, Dover Sunday, tip Monday, home Monday night and back out Tuesday. I never got bored with it for some reason

All those companies who are no more and all those great people I met. 25 years in Rock and Roll with Eurotrux and Transam followed but it is the groupage to Italy and Germany etc I miss most. Life was much less regulated then and the job was fun as it was at Eurotrux till they knocked that wall down and opened the floodgates. Still I suppose the Italian trucking companies thought that when we all turned up.

Thanks Ash for bringing it all back.

Dieseldave, thanks for jogging my memory it was Serges at Pont d’ Ain.

Muttenz. The driver in the check shirt was a Brummie & became an O/D.
The guy in the F12 is Dave Jeffries.
