Lovely Picture of truck and trailer, and number plates

I worked out of Zust and Bachmeir after the demise of DOW, either through Panalpina or direct. I didn’t realise DOW did though.

they took over the work and drivers from radclive Faringdon

can you tell me why this was taken off

Hello Sean, I hope that you are well, I have no idea why that photo has gone missing although I am also having a few problems with Photobucket at the moment for some reason. It it dosen’t reappear in a couple of days then I think that I have got a copy of it somewhere and I shall try and put it on here.
Do you still keep in touch with any of the old Radclive and Dow lads  .

Regards Steve.

Just bumping this classic thread…

Does anyone remember this lovely truck from the 80`s, was a regular leaving Dover

Superb pics as usual Ash,well done.

The Partricks pics bought back some memories as I used to see them passing through Kimbolton most days.

Their Globetrotter was an early one and the first that I saw on the road.

Do you have any pics of their White RoadCommander or ERF’s. They had a steel cabbed MW and ,I think,a left hand drive B series amongst others.

Or, do you have any David Abbott, who ran a varied fleet in an unusual grey and maroon livery.

Cheers Mark

Is that a pair of discarded rigger boots next to the Scania

It was all still kicking off out there when I was doing it, didn’t like going through Belfast, not because of the trouble, but it was too long on the boat & another lot of customs going into the south. Didn’t have much grief myself except for getting ambushed by about 30 teenagers with bricks in Newry! Little [zb] stood in the road & pelted me until they ran out of ammo, When they went I carried on down the road & found an RUC man, told him what happened & he wanted to nick me for having no headlights!

It’s amazing what you find when reading old threads!

I am surprised that you would find any RUC south of Newry without very substantial army backup. Here is a youtube video about the RUC in Newry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O49G7Gzrrco

If you ever read a book called “Deadly Beat” by Richard Latham you will see that a lot of the RUC did not like the “Brits” which is quite suprising.

I don’t think I mentioned anything about being south of anywhere, maybe the down the road, rather than up the road comment made it seem that way, have to be honest I’m always telling my wife off for that, if you’re going north it’s up, south and it’s down, need to heed my own advice it seems

It was a long time ago, 89/90, can’t remember where I went last month, so ain’t got a clue what direction I was pointing at that time, can’t remember where I got the lights repaired either, which would help

Never had much dealings with the officials, but as you say, a frosty reception was a possibility. There was a definite hatred of all things British in some quarters. I used to go to the Caffrey’s Brewery on the Falls Road in 1999/2000, by that time it had calmed down dramatically, but there was still an atmosphere you could cut with a knife when I opened my mouth in some places

I live midway between Cardiff and Swansea and if I did what you did in Lampeter,I’d receive the same treatment

Funny lot up there !

hiya,
I taught a local lad in Ynysybwl to sing (spelling) “sas pan bach” many
years ago, that’s totally true and although I was in a Welsh pub the one
used by Leighton Rees there was not one person in there who spoke the
lingo and they was amazed that I could “get by” in their native tongue I
had a great night in there and have kept in touch with a family from there
for over thirty years, and I think I’m English my “old fellah” didn’t have a bike     .
thanks harry, long retired.

I have often heard such tales of insularity and ignorance laid at, not only the door of the Welsh, but also the French.

However, I have never in all my many years of travelling in both countries had personal experience of such behaviour.

Perhaps it’s just because I’m such a very nice chap. :unamused:

Yes fine mate, catch up with you later!
