I was quoting from an article in the financial supplement in the Telegraph newspaper, anyway, fore warned is fore armed,I would change my Greek Euro’s as soon as I could,if I had any that is!!!
I can just imagine the reaction I would get in our bank if I demanded that they change Greek issued euros. It would mean that they study each note and coin carefully to identify the origin. It just wouldn’t happen. In fact I have just had a look at some of the coins in our purses. It took several minutes with specs and magnifying glass to identify one, Austrian, I gave up after the next 2, both French.
Further to my previous post,I had to go to Venlo to have the papers stamped, making that particular run something of a personal record for me.
Load Italy then transit France ,Luxembourg,Belgium,Holland, into Germany to come back to the outward Zoll,Holland,Belgium, France then UK.
The old N4 was a pleasure to drive.
Once you had wound up the speed over the first hill it was flat out all the way to Namur.
Something in the order of about 100 k’s.
The new motorway just lost the plot especially that swine of a gradient that even had the 142 wheezing a tad,or the trailer brakes cooking nicely.
As to the fuel stations wasn’t it the Belgium and Luxembourg border that ran down the street.
I can remember the locals dashing between the traffic, arms full of “contraband” to avoid the Customs post at the bottom of the street.

Archie ,Re;Martelange.I was with a rubbish Swiss firm that really took the P with junk motors & day+night schedules but cash diesel.I thought I would make some money so I filled up in Lux UK bound & paid. Then I thought I would drive to Belge & swap the receipt for a Belgian one -same litres ,higher price. So I pulled into what I thought was a Belgian gas station & gave the guy a fiver for a ticket with identical litres . I drove away without checking the ticket. I had done the deal in Martelange without realising it was Lux…so I was fiver out of pocket!
