TRUCKIN IN THE 80's (International)

There was a very similar Transcon abandoned in Calais around that time (89) it had ‘The shed’ hand painted on it.

Aye I didn’t drive it for very long after that and the next time I saw it in either Dover or Calais it was yellow. I’ve heard before that it was dumped in both Calais and Turkey. Poor old wagon.

Much more recently I finally discovered what happened to her cos someone put me onto the guy that built her and I went down to Sandwich and met him last year.

I also have some photos of her in a blue livery.

Re P.Hauser
I worked in the office in M.I.F.T during the early eighties at shed 5, i remember we were upstairs & MAT’s office was downstairs then MAT moved to what was shed 6 and Philbins transport Maggie philbins uncle i think) took over the downstairs at shed 5 as for the other shed I know that after the customs & Trailer park shed 1 belonged to Davies Turner shed 4 was occupied by a fruit importers called Pascual fruit of i think seville spain supplying fruit to various super markets as for the little portakabin cafe i remember a big guy cant remember his name but recollect he came from stacksteads in rossendale valley i remember hausers having an old erf 4 wheeler & a little guy used to take it to scotland no heater, straps on the windows to open & shut them it was a real old one could be wrong but probably crash gearbox & no Power steering to boot… this little guy done this through the bad winters as well…these were certainly the days… we had many foreign drivers for clearance during this time ie" hungarcamion, turksped danzas medtrans, & lep transport used to deliver a lot of cargo for us locally

Pete cox and Andy smith now work with me on Stobarts international. Bob beresford I think is on the uk out of Chesterfield depot. I was on Rh for a good few years after you left. Very good firm to work for until the eastern influx killed it. I showed Rumpo and pap your pics ronnie. Any more to put up would be great. Cheers jon ex Rh.

Jimmy hill was working down at the garage for pap and Nigel Baxter last I heard. And steve Murray was at dhl at east leake.

Looks like Basque-land to me.

Something just occurred to me,Laura Woodsford aka Bodywarmer (on CB) died suddenly and tragically young in folkestone recently. She had many friends amongst the lads who used Sealink from Folkestone in the 80s,was a regular in the London & Paris, when Clive and Ingrid had it. Big loss and sadly missed, she was legendary.
On which subject, anyone know the whereabouts of Paul Regan ex Brian Yeardleys No 1 chauffeur,or for that matter anyone still kicking around from the halcyon days of 80’s Folkestone ?

Was that Paul who had the first Globetrotter on Yeardleys.

Dont know gazzer,I think he became the transport manager by default after many years of mayhem on the roads of Europe.!!

Bloody hell, blast from the past - not sure he was there early enough to have the first Gobstopper around 1981?

I seem to remember that being just before Salamanca !!
Could be wrong though, a long time has passed.

Kinda Palencia area- the road to Portugal, anyway.

Dont know if he became the transport manager, but he was a traffic planner when I was at Yeardleys around 91/92,I saw him a couple of years ago driving a tanker for Jacksons of Ossett, dont know if hes still there.

Sombody give those to men a ‘pat on the back’ it’s actually the ‘National’ out of Salamanca (so actually the other side) towards Portugal, we used to load a Scotts Tissues (Kimberly Clark now I think) and used this road regularly.

I used it regularly ,I could nip along there -all cobbles & potholes no prob with a Eurpean truck but when I got my first White the only way I could drive was to stand up because of the primitive air suspension on the drivers seat - no weight adjustment- & solid front axle springs.

Started going there in the '70s and remember the roads very well. The next stop in the direction of Portugal was the Vigallana, then once over the boarder at villa the road got worse, fantastic times. :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:
