Hullo Steve,
Aye happen your right mate, there were some good eating (and drinking) places en route in those days. I very rarely used the Bakehouse though, I used to go down the back road from Tournus D975, there were a few good places down there to stop at plus a brilliant Italian Routier. And of course if you missed any of these, then you could have a really entertaining, good night before you reached Bourg en Bresse. ( wait for it ) at Jayat

Cheers, Archie.

Hi Archie, is this the place that you mean

maps.google.com/maps?ll=46.36855 … &t=h&hl=en

I must admit that I never stopped at that place myself, if ever you found a place for a good night out it was sometimes better to keep it to yourself.
I mentioned about Feblands hoping that John Mcvey might show us a photo of his 141 going over The Blanc but he must be on his holidays (again) .

Regards Steve.

Hullo Steve,
Yes that’s the place, looks a lot different now though, all those bushes in front of the Parking Area. And not a Lorry in sight. I wonder if the Cafe / Bar is still open. Febland also had a Depot in Novara and they used to run up over Mont Cenis quite a bit. I don’t think I know John McVey but I remember the 141’s they ran. I do remember a foriegn bloke on there, but can’t think for the life of me what his name was. Could it have been Mario ?

It’d never have been Mick Price has he was driving a Volvo F12 back then. I remember Alan though, as he was featured in long distance diary and i met him a couple of times when i went to Spain with my Dad in the 80’s. Those were the day’s

In my Italian period,I had many a Saturday night in The Ralais de Jayat, most of the Sundays were just a blur, how the hell we ever got from there to Calais must remain one of life’s little mysteries.

Follow this link to see what it looks like now.

Dave.

My first ever Italian trip had me meeting a bloke in Jayat to give him a compressor head gasket for his 3300 Daf, nearly always stopped in there after that, although I didn’t eat there often, the showers were minging too, flip flops weren’t enough for that place, you needed waders  Always a good laugh in there though and Calais was a long way away after a session in there, it was even further if you stopped at the Rallye Route and the Algerrycans for refreshment on the way home

I also thought that mick price had a seddon atkinson 411 at some point, probably after his volvo, i expect he noticed the differance an after that he had a magnum i think.

yes mate his name was martin real sound guy.
