Hi Carl,
Thanks for the feedback, great pics its always interesting to see what a wagon has got up to in its working life. I got a feeling I took my pic on Milton Park, Abingdon, but then with my memory it could have been in Dusseldorf! I been following the Westermann site, I posted a pic of a Westermann DAF 95 Drawbar on there, another random pic I took in South Mimms probably when I was on a break/night-out.
Regards
Chris

I should of thought to stop rain, sand or dust blowing into it whenever he is not using it.
Sorry for the delayed response but are you on a wind up ?

I think Mushroomman is right, why expose it to the elements in the winter, after all it doesn’t take much to take if off, if you need to.

I apologise for my response, was a tad bitchy
Why cover an air con intake if there is “sand or dust blowing into it” ?
Thought that would be the best time to have it switched on

HI boys
andyboy45 this may be a long shot but did your dad live in / around southampton way? The reason I ask is we ran back from Iraq with a Pan express lad that had first burnt his leg then a few days later broke the same leg. He had his leg in plaster with a hole in the side so he could tend the wound. We went to visit him at his house down south when we went to get our visa for the next trip. This would have been spring /summer 1976.
Regards Keith.
Regarding the picure of the DAF 3300 drawbar A715XDM you took, the truck was operated by Quickfreight who were based between Nantwich and Whitchurch at the time.
Would this be the same outfit that ran out of an old egg packing factory or similar■■? My reason for asking is because i used to goto F, I, B, CH with him during the school holidays. Fantastic times in a DAF 2800 (one of the few artics), would love to read a bit about them, but until know haven’t been successful. Fingers crossed it’s the same firm, cheers.

Terry Smith gave me some of his old photos the last time that I saw him and he asked me if I could put a couple of them on here and hopefully somebody might recognise some of the people or the trucks in them.
This Volvo Globetrotter that Terry drove belonged to Peter Winterscheid from West Germany who I think got breathalised after coming off the Sally Line boat in Ramsgate and lost his licence. Peters C.B. call sign was Papa Whiskey and Terry did say that Peter was a great bloke to work for when he was sober. I remember that Terry worked for him for quite a while doing Manchester to Swiss every week but does anybody remember anything about this red D.A.F. belonging to B. Marshall or where this photo was taken ?.
Regards Steve.
I remember a coloured guy from wolverhampton who also worked for Peter Winterscheid. Can’t for the life of me remember his name though…

That’s got to be the same place and i just wrongly understood it to be an egg factory!!! Is there anyone on here that worked for QF and is there a link with them and yourself? I was but a kid at the time and am curious to know how many arctics/wagon and drags thay had around '81-'82. Great times as it was on these trips that i ended up getting drunk’ish with other english drivers for the first time (aged 11) in a Routiers - can you imagine the delight. cheers mitch.

Mitch I used to know John and Kath Renalds when they were at Wrenbury and did a few repairs to some of the draw bar trailers they had. They had some with bars that extended when you went around a corner and retracted when you streatened up to keep you in the legal limit. All this to get as much volume as possible. The problem was too many moving parts and after a little wear the drag would start to snake. After they moved to Rednal we made two close coupled triaxle drags for them with a running deck height of half a metre. We fitted skids under the back so they could be dragged on and off the boats. We made the running chassis and there son (sorry can’t remember his name ) built all the upper structure. All this would have been 1986/7.

I also remember a black guy on the continental run, big fella, used to eat like a horse at Billy’s (Lapalme). I can’t remember his name neither but I’m pretty sure he was from Bradford.
