hiya,
Never did International work but have worked for companies that did namely Bowkers, just wondering did any of you guys ever come across a great pal of mine from my days at Bowkers about 40 years ago, his name Jack Leach, i believe he went on to work for Woodside Bros but i know he did Continental work for a lot of years certainly from the 60s should imagine he’ll be retired now will be in his early 70s just a bit younger than me, thanks in advance for any information.
thanks harry long retired.

Harry, as you say, he left Bowker to work for Woodside. However, I heard that Jack had died in an accident some time ago, I think whilst driving a Woodside’s motor. As I recall, it was at a junction off the M25, perhaps the M25/M1 junction. This was all secondhand info, so may not be accurate.

hiya,
Thanks Chris not the thing i wanted to hear but i suppose it could save me putting my foot in it should i ever come across members of his family, that is unlikely but you never know do occasionally get over that way i know he used to live near Ewood Park i’ve dropped him at his door when going home, me to Darwen after a session in the Hamilton, poor lad never made it to retirement, what a shame thanks again Chris.
thanks harry long retired.

Here you are Harry - this was one of a series of photos, and which I think involved Jack Leach. One of the other photos showed him standing next to the lorry, though I don’t have that one scanned, and I think that the location is Turkey, though I’m not certain.

And the same lorry on a sunnier day in Hull:

Good pic that one, just looking at the underside of the trailer. Looks like he has about three storage lockers and possibly a full width belly tank■■?..as opposed to the circular drum type!

Proper looking long distance truck

Ash, do you know if Andrews and Bond became Central ? Just spotted a pic on another site, and it rings a bell, Im sure they changed their name when they started to sink.My dad had left well by then and went to Transfreeze.

mate. the only Central i know was Central Road Transport from Somerset.

yes…i know this isnt an 80’s photo, but im saving the best Central pics from that era, for another night :frowning: Probably do a “SouthWest” companies therme.
**routier:**do you hav anymore info on your Central. eg: location livery, etc etc:? and can you put on here, the “other site” you saw the pic on, so i can see pelase

bubbleman found this for me as i was trying to find my first truck as it turned out it was EX-CRT

i had it when it looked like this

although it did spend time in an orange livery for yeobridge transport & then as stemwest , it also went european for yeobridge although i cant find any pics in the orange livery for either yeobridge or stemwest
as far as i know CRT are still trading but as Crewkerne Refridgerated Transport & not Central Road Transport & run XF units

Why the cover over the aircon ?

Can’t remember where or when I took the pic, but not a common wagon for a UK operator!

Suedehead:
Why the cover over the aircon ?

Absolutely no idea!

I should of thought to stop rain, sand or dust blowing into it whenever he is not using it.

I would imagine that is the reason for the cover as they were good things but very temperamental and prone to shaking apart too

was it john power who ran MAN wagon and drags to germany with a similar colour scheme in the 90s? maybe something to do with him?

Hi Adr
Regarding the picure of the DAF 3300 drawbar A715XDM you took, the truck was operated by Quickfreight who were based between Nantwich and Whitchurch at the time. My mate Tony drove for them 1989 early '90s. I doublemanned a trip to Germany in this very motor taking packaging down to a village somewhere in the middle of Germany, sorry can’t remember. Re-loading for a construction firm two collections, one down near the Swiss border and the other in Strasbourg. Here are 4 photos of the trip, the one with the sheets off is part of the construction equipment being loaded, hope you find this of interest.

P.S. check out the Westermann site for some more Quickfreight photos.
