the company was owned by dave sawyer he is still going its called motorway now white with 3 blue stripes he also owned tt transport tryhard transport used to be in old rd enfield then moved to brimsdown paid peanuts to cab happy drivers his main customer them days was delta metals

is that the same motorway that operates out of basildon?
all volvo fleet i think, same colours as you describe, mainly pulling boxes.

Why did the French have yellow headlights? or do they still? I had them on one motor back in the 70’s, not to keen on them, restful on the eyes but you couldn’t see a thing, especially as a lot of the road markings where yellow as well,…. are well I suppose they are French, bless their little cotton socks.

Long gone Ossie, although they are still allowed on cars on which they were fitted before the ban.
Apparently they were less dazzling I think.

I was once told that the Nazis forced the Garlic Breath Surrender Monkeys to have yellow headlights so that they could distinguish them from the German vehicles during the war, whatever the truth, I like this version best

Well never let the truth get in the way of a good lie eh? Or a stupid insult get in the way of the truth.

It’s a pity you can’t click on a ‘‘like’’ icon the same as facebook because I definately would on Newmercmans comment about the yellow headlights, maybe Trucknet could introduce it…

Newmercman is almost right they were introduced by the French before the war so they could tell the difference between the own vehicles and an invaders. I suppose so they knew when to wave the White flag.

Bit like the Brits in Singapore and the Yanks in Vietnam then?
And everybody, eventually, in Afghanistan.
Isn’t it time we got back to Truckin in the 80’s and less of the national insults? Especially from a mod. I thought personal insults were banned. :unamused:

It wasn’t personal more of a stereotypical generalisation but no offence intended.

It’s all very well mocking the French etc. for waving a white flag at invaders but the last time we had a real invasion, 1066, the Normans walked all over us I seem to recall!

Anyway back to truckin’ in the 80’s, I did mine in the 60’s and 70’s!!!

Believe it (or not) this gutless wonder of a V6 1619 Merc had just returned from Gdansk in Poland having taken ships stores to a new ship Harrison Line had built in 1981, (The Author) along with three other vehicles from the firm. A Scania 81 also a day cab, a 2600 Daf (sleeper) & a 2800 (sleeper) pulling fridge trailers.

This is the 2600 a year or so later;

Ross.

PS, please pardon ‘the pose’!!!

David, you’re not French so it isn’t personal  I actually like France and a lot of the French people are quite decent in my experience, I like Italy and its natives too, but I still mock them over their tanks having 1 forward gear and six reverse gears :open_mouth:

Also, I’m only a moderator on the expats forum, over here I am a free man

Fair enough, but I feel French and thus perhaps am a bit sensitive about such matters. :unamused:
Maybe because I live in an area where the courage and commitment of many of the locals is without doubt and how they reacted and risked, and gave, their lives to fight an invader and a treacherous puppet government.
Sorry, a bit serious, but as I said, I feel it.

Ah ha! My old job. Obviously you haven’t been told about the principle of collective responsability yet then?

Like you, I can’t even spell responsAbility

I may use stereotypes when referring to other nations, mostly because it amuses me and hopefully raises a smile on others, but I never generalise or even attack individuals on race, creed or colour and I’ll even forgive the French for any past misdermeanors for three reasons…Foie Gras, Calvados and Champagne, mmm mmmmmm

Anyway, thinking about it all, the Swiss and the Spanish never get a hard time for remaining neutral during the war, that just goes to show how chicken they were, worse than the bloody surrender monkeys the lot of em

…or lucky…or sensible, perhaps?

Afghanistan, Andorra,Bhutan,Liechtenstein,Monaco, Nepal,Paraguay,Portugal,Republic of Ireland,Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,Turkey, Yemen were a few of the countries that stayed neutral in WW2
