Christ! even I’m getting excited looking at that , a real man’s truck, was it ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ ? wonder how many of today’s Autoboxtruckers could drive it.
Unless the tickets are free, I would rather go to the Classic and Vintage Commercial Show, at Gaydon in June.
Ken.
As Harry Monk has said Horses for courses… I have been a couple of times but that was with free tickets, would rather spend the £120 ish… going to watch a good rugby match…
Personally I keep my Truck clean and tidy, but that’s as far as it goes…
I did the Brands Hatch show because for the £35 entry fee and about £40 in diesel to get there and back, me and my boys had a weekend camping and watching the truck racing as well as the other formulas, and £75 for a weekend at Brands Hatch for three people is a bargain by anybody’s standards.
I wouldn’t be interested in going as a punter, but plenty of people did, and stopped to chat to us and take photos of the truck, and I did enjoy looking at the older trucks which were there.
we took the wrecker to brands last week, and we’re be taking 3 of them up for p/boro also
Peterborough for me this year. Not exhibiting, just having a mooch!

Anyone know if the ackworth steam rally is on this year?
19th and 20th July.
Before that the Ackworth Historic Vehicle Show on the 26th and 27th April.

I know of a firm north of the border that attend these shows, where some of the drivers look after their motors to a point bordering on OCD.
They spend thousands on all the crap they put on their motors out of their wages, they don’t take holidays with their families as they don’t want other drivers on their motors . If they do farm deliveries or to muddy yards the first stop afterwards is a services to hose down their tyres and when they get back to their yard on a friday afternoon rather than go home they stay to about 10PM, unpaid, polishing tanks and wheels etc.
I also know that their wages are average to the area.
I know everybody is different and have different interests, but is this normal behaviour or some kind of obsession.
Sounds like those poor wretches on Peter Roff?
Hi Robroy
365 ■■■■■■■ with Eaton twin splitter, my wife used to drive it, she loved it.
Couldn’t get her to drive another truck I had, a Scania 113, she said she couldn’t
use the gear box, women, they are a funny bunch!

Peter Roff, aka “Bugger” Roff.
We had one of his trucks at Brands too, H7ROF, in the early stages of preservation.

Preferred the 13speed Fuller myself, got to the stage where I only used the clutch on setting off and stopping , I would have thought the synchro box in the 113 would be a doddle compared to the twin splitter, but as you say, women

Never in a million years. They used to do two Germanies a week ,get back on a Saturday ,clean the motor ,sleep in the yard ,clean some more in Sunday morning and down to Dover on Sunday afternoon. Young married men too knackered to go home. Lovely job?

Well in all the time I worked there I was never too knackered to go home
Nor was anyone else. Best job I ever had before going it alone .
But I thought this thread was about truckfest which is definitely one place
You wouldn’t have seen a Peter Roff truck while he owned it.

Was in T&D by truckerash from here. To be fair he did say he told anyone who came for a job how he wanted the job done it was down to them if they was happy with that.
Dont think it would be for me but each to there own.
I went twice! Once with a company wagon! (DTS logistics) and once payed! Never again!
I may go to the one in June at Billing Aquadrome Northampton though!
I think roffy was a great guy a proper haulier who had some pride in the job
unlike most
