Truckfest

Harry Monk:
I’m not going to Truckfest, but we did show the truck at Brands Hatch last weekend, and will be doing Lydden Hill and the Detling show this year. We enjoy doing the shows, my boys love a weekend camping, but I wouldn’t personally go as a punter.

That having been said, I wouldn’t cross the road to watch a Premiership football match either, but if that’s what other people enjoy then that’s fair enough. We spent this afternoon on a preserved steam railway, the SKLR, and I’m sure most people wouldn’t be interested in doing that. Diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks and all that.

you all sound like you hate trucks which begs the question why do you actually join a website to talk about them or is it you have nothing else better to do,personally I like a smart trucks and enjoy truck shows, trucks have been my life since I was 12 so its not going to change.

I think its more about the ridiculous cost of getting in that’s putting people off.
I’ve been for a number of years and you know who’s going to pick up what trophy before its announced there are trucks there that are off the road a week some times more being prepped for the show having wheels changed etc just to look good but unfortunately that’s not what people want to see IMOP.

I can remember the 1st show at Peterborough I attended on the South West Truckers Club a brilliant show but in the last few years the show has become more of a heavy profit making exercise with nothing or no support for the people who with out them would have no show …Yes the drivers.

There is no support given to any of the concerns of what drivers need in todays world .
Parking (With min requirements) (ie not expected to pay when parking on a dust bowl of a bomb site)
DCPC
Wages ( a proper wage structure not by bonus or by trip)
Standardization of H&S ( ie all company’s to play by the same hymn book )
just to name a few of the things that are needed to start with.

Truckfest is an enormous rip off. I prefer local rallies where the admission charge is much less, not a monster truck or Z-list celebrity guest (with no connection to transport) in sight. Okay with the local rallies you get oddballs turning up displaying petrol cans, tractor seats etc but every attraction has something crap in it.*

SKLR is very similar, like a little piece of rural North Wales but running through the Kent post-industrial wasteland. :stuck_out_tongue:

Interesting. :sunglasses:

Think your right there local small attraction a Mr Whippy and a pint  Cheers

Il be going for first time in about 5 or 6 years due to falling out of love with the industry due to working for a terrible firm,I’m now working in a job I enjoy and got a bit of enthusiasm for it back.
It’s either something you enjoy or not IMHO but I won’t be showing any interest in the stobart “celebrities” and there trucks I will see loads of them on the way down to Peterborough, I’d rather see a good old working truck cleaned up by the driver for the weekend to show pride in his job.
I also like the 1980s and early 90s trucks as this is the era that started my love of all things cars and trucks etc.

I think the majority come on here not to specifically talk about trucks, but to talk, discuss and compare aspects of the job with other drivers, and maybe even learn something new.
I personally do not get the Viagara effect looking at a shiny tank and a Kelsa bar, however some evidently do :open_mouth: , so each to his own and all that.

Went once as a punter -without taking hotel Volvo with you its v.tiring&boring… never go again, all that celeb rubbish!

I will be going this year but not in my truck only as a day visit
I did last year with my tipper but having changed companies i dont feel my present truck is quite ready having said that we do have a truck going.
For me it will be nice to catch up with a few mates who i only see in passing the rest of the year

Worth more than the wagons…

Granted some folks like to have a right good look at trucks but to me they are just a tool for a job.just like a joiner would like a great top of the range hammer i doubt he would pay to walk around a field looking at other joiners with there top of the range tool belts on.only drivers are mad enough to get low wages, pay for cpc, digi card and then spend there low wages to look at a truck on there day off that looks like a brothel on wheels

I know of a firm north of the border that attend these shows, where some of the drivers look after their motors to a point bordering on OCD.
They spend thousands on all the crap they put on their motors out of their wages, they don’t take holidays with their families as they don’t want other drivers on their motors :open_mouth: . If they do farm deliveries or to muddy yards the first stop afterwards is a services to hose down their tyres  and when they get back to their yard on a friday afternoon rather than go home they stay to about 10PM, unpaid, polishing tanks and wheels etc.
I also know that their wages are average to the area.
I know everybody is different and have different interests, but is this normal behaviour or some kind of obsession.

I’ve never been, so we’re going this year to Peterborough, it’s local and my kids can’t wait.

We will be there, 1 x service van, 1 x v8 Top line Scania and 1 x Magnum.

Lights all over, polished allies, all the bull****.

Come and say hello.(Breadmore Commercials Ltd)

Never go to win anything now, can,t compete with the custom jobs,
just for a good time with all our families and show off our trucks to
other truck enthusiasts.

I’ve been going for years, we did all the shows we could in the 90s,
won loads of trophies then, we took 3rd place at Truckfest Shepton M. one
year with a plain Seddon atki Strato, just had a great paint job.
