war1974:
never see why drivers have to wear jean or trackys.
work trousers and polo shirt, normally for me the odd days now I do drive - hiviz coat in winter, vest in summer.
What’s wrong with jeans?..(…or trackies for that matter,)
as long as they are, and look, clean.?
not for me, most drivers I see in jeans have half their arse hanging out. plus work cargo pants look so much smarter. the days of jeans and checked shirt have passed rob am afraid mate.
Yeh in YOUR opinion.
Do guys that wear cargo pants (btw wtf ARE cargo pants ) not have their arses hanging out sometimes.
Thanks for the patronising comment on jeans and checked shirt btw, I’ll bear it in mind.
For me clean jeans (or work kecks whatever is available) polo shirt, with a warm shirt on top when out of cab …yeh usually checked , Pair of nubuck boots, or drive distance in clacks.
Summer…, shorts and polo …I Never drive in hi viz EVER, as I’ve got an aversion to looking a complete cockend.
Dark joggers (to avoid the crushed nuts / Bettie’s), black embroidered polo shirt (got quite a collection from previous companies), and fleece jacket when cold. Don’t like driving in jeans, spend most of my time adjusting them after sitting for a bit.

nor me cant be doing with any extra uneccessary layers on in the cab.
never been a fan of jeans / can accept the checked shirts ala lumber jack style.
mind you I used to wear shorts and rigger boots in summer so cant really say too much can I
Collarless shirt ( saves faffing with the collar studs ), sleeves rolled up to armpits. Moleskin trousers held up with 3 inch thick leather belt. Brown bib and brace overalls. Hob-nailed steel toecapped boots ( toecap on the outside ). Oh, and an ex-army great coat ( pinched off the bed at home ) for the winter.
This is the old timers forum isn’t it ?
Regards. John.
I had company issue jacket and work trousers, boots, and Polo top, hiviz coat, “BUT” back in the day when I started as a drivers mate,it was shirt poss a tye!!! Boiler suit cloth not nylon, and jacket, adonky jacket for rough weather an heavy boots,
Dose that ring any bells with our “mature” followers!!
Green boiler suit, oh yes, but we’re going back a while to find those.
They issued good uniforms and protective stuff on the cars, smock most important, full heavy cotton boiler suits for the bad weather, full waterproofs, very good top coats you could wear out to the theatre if you wished to, quality gloves, hats, good boots (at one time we could buy our own and they would reimburse fully, but half wit ■■■■ taker with family who owned a shoe shop soon bollocksed that ), as well the usual trousers and polo and sweat shirts, with option for non iron shirts and V neck jumper if you preferred to look less like a convict, suited me cos i hate polo shirts.
What i can’t stand seeing is them bloody rigger boots, WTF are lorry men doing in them things, usually sported by those bastions of chivalry honour good manners and honesty, i give you those wonderful non members of the caravan club.
I like the old fashioned 2 piece overalls in heavy 100% cotton,
Job to find these days, but I have found some & with polo shirt in summer & rugby shirt in winter, I find they are smart & practical

Yeh you rarely see those blue jacket and pants sets today. Once over most drivers had them, they were quite common and popular.

A firm I sub for issue their drivers with same style, but they are that poly cotton crap, and all in black,
I prefer the 100% cotton & you can get in red, blue, white, green or Khaki
