Truck Microwave

I’ve just ordered one of these. Obviously it was the colour that sold it. A bit late to ask if they’re any good, but are they? For £40 it won’t be the end of the world if it doesn’t last.

Can anyone recommend a good value 24v inverter for the job, thanks?

I previously had one of these and it did the job well with higher wattage microwave than you’ve ordered.

Ordered this, cost a fortune, it better be ok.

I think you’ve bagged a bargain, I’ve got one off these, in my truck-:

kudauk.ltd.uk/shop/electrica … 71,354,188

Thankfully Scania had to pick up the tab, replacement for the original Scania Microwave that came as part of the kitchen pack

Though there was more mirth when I defected the Coffee Maker

Out if interest where is your inverter positioned? I’m hoping the microwave will fit in the cupboard on the passenger side, so ideally I’d like the inverter in that area so it can double up to power my TV which I plonk on the dash there (currently run off a ring can inverter). Not sure how they’ll wire it in (if they agree to even do it…). I’m thinking join in to the tail lift wiring.

Nothing wrong with that one. Sunsolar are good and pure sine wave is liked by microwaves as it gives a constant output. Normally inverter are fitted behind the passenger seat so you keep the cable run to a minimum from the batteries to the inverter. Use an extension lead from the inverter if necessary. Don’t forget to put an inline fuse on the + feed from the battery.

what size inverter would do the job for the daewoo microwave?

It will need to be a fairly hefty wire, if it ever gets used at 1500w then that is a 60 amp draw. probably need to fire up the motor if you are using a 40 inch plasma all evening.

Sounds good I can work with the inverter located there. I’m sure the workshop lads will know what they’re doing with the fuses etc.

From what I’ve read you basically double the Watts. So 600w microwave needs 1200w inverter. Also went for sine wave as it apparently give a smooth stable current (like the supply in your house) whereas modified wave current can fluctuate and cause problems.

I use a 19" samsung. No need for the overpriced crap make truck TVs. It is extremely energy efficient.

The inverter is built in, if you look the picture of the Microwave in the link, the block on the righthand side of the Microwave is the inverter.

What type off truck you driving, I know several lads at our place who drive XF Daf’s and have fitted their own Microwaves, they put the Inverter behind the passenger seat, on the Daf there is a heavy duty block connecter set up, behind the kick plate at the front of the passenger side footwell, I was told that it is the main feed from the batteries to the fuse board, and all subsequent equipment. Connect the inverter to this(use an in line fuse to protect the inverter), then run an extension lead upto the cupboard to service the Microwave.
The fitter who fitted that replacement Microwave in My Scania, told Me that a heavy duty feed, is laid into the loom upto the middle Cupboard(topline scania) ready to take a 24volt microwave, so it was a straight forward job, though the truck had had a microwave there from new, so this may have been because of that

For what its worth, I think that putting in your own inverter, and using a standard microwave, is not only cheaper, but also gives you the availability to the inverter for other uses, unlike a 24 volt microwave that is double the price, and then for anything else, you have to have another inverter

This is mine got it from Tesco’s

Hi all has any one fitted a microwave in to a 63 plate t-range would have a 24 volt or go down the inverter route ■■

Cheers for any info

You can get a 24volt Microwave from Kuda but they are pricey, but include the fitting kit.

Personally, I’d get a large inverter and buy a cheap household Microwave, only that My truck came with a 24volt Microwave fitted

the poster said it was to replace scanias formerly fitted microwave, so the wireing should still be there…shouldnt it. ■■

I must have missed that OP said it was in a Scania. But as I’m lead to believe, Scania and Volvo lay the wiring in place during assembly, then they can fit when optioned without any headaches.

Though My over riding thought, and why I copied links to Kuda, is that the 24volt microwaves are the expensive option compared to an Inverter and a household Microwave
