Don’t do it, its a Mugs game over here Nah, just its not for everyone!! Canada and NZ are your only real options for Truck Driving and as you say at least you get home more often here, but you will do big hours.
Think bout what you wana do, research where you wana be and give it a go. If you don’t like it go home, at least you can say you tried.
Don’t bother with ADR, doesn’t convert to anything here.
Hey Shunta, whats the story over at Draycote? Went to look at thier Web site the other day and it redirected me to Oldhams!■■! Did I miss something or am I just behind the times.
shunta:
the best thing to do is go out there show your face with a few companys
see wot you think, if you like it
then you can find want you want ok
i did hear you have to earn over $58,000 before you get a visa
I think if you go to Australia you have to be sponsored by a company for two years or put down $100,000 which is around £40k. Thats to ensure that no-one goes over and sponges off the state. I could never imagine that hapening, as I don’t know of any country who will let you in and let you sponge for years off the taxpayer
After two years you get your money back. It sounds like a lot of money but if you sell up here, relocate to Oz and rent for a few months to see if you like it then you can shop around. My inlaws moved 3 years ago and they would NEVER come back. Great weather, by the sea, polite staff, everyone is so laid back they are almost horizontal and my inlaws sold a 2 up- 2 down in Yorkshire and bought a bungalow (yes it really does look like neighbours in their street) with double garage, games room, pool, aircon 3 bedrooms including en-suite, MASSIVE kitchen/diner, living room/diner, study etyc for less than they sold up here for.
And when you walk down the street you see pink parrots with mohicans. How cool is that■■?
The only reason I cannot go yet is cos I am fighting for custody of my son. If it wasn’t for that I’d be off tomorrow.
If it’s any use to you I am going to see my outlaws in August in Perth and will try to chat to a few agencies there. I know it’s not New Zealand but I did hear that Oz is looking out for drivers. If you get to Oz they are currently looking for people to retrain as builders, plumbers etc so you could go over as a trucker and become Brucie the Builder!!!
Also in this country, when you throw a sickie, you get tortued on a rack at work about why you were off. In Oz they EXPECT you to take so many days off sick.
Bear inmind that if you move there and rent and it doesn’t suit you, you can always come back. Remember it is better to regret something you have done than something you haven’t.
You REALLY wouldn’t want to be retired in this country thinking ‘what if? If only…’

also im thinking of getting my ADR so i can drive tankers. will that be more helpfull
That’s the only part I can help you with, so I’ll stick to my subject.
I was an ex-pat, but that was only in Italy, so I do have some idea of what it’s like to live in a strange country and far from home. At least they speak English where you’re considering your move
IF you do your ADR, you’ll find that it’s valid in the UK and internationally in just over 40 European countries at present. It seems you’ve had an answer to whether ADR is convertable to an equivalent qualification in your country of choice.
TBH mate, I wouldn’t know the answer to that
The one way that getting your ADR for tankers might be of benefit, is that you’d be able to claim honest experience of driving tankers with dangerous goods as your load. As to whether it’s worthwile in your case, I’d say that depends on how long you think it will be before you make your move. Unless you’re thinking in excess of two years, ADR probably won’t be worthwhile in terms of an investment.
An alternative way of getting into tanker driving might be to consider the food industry.
The guys already living where you’re going will correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d say you’re more likely to get a tanker job in your country of choice, if you’ve already got some experience of them here. It’s not written in stone though.
Now there’s honest for you, I’ve probably talked myself or a colleague out of a job, but what the hell, I’d sooner give you a useful suggestion than make a fast quid-- must be mad, but there you go.
You can apply for a Visa here, but you can not start working till you get it. It pends how busy Immigration are, can take 3-6 weeks.
Once you get a job offer, you can ask them to fill out an Employer Supplementary Form ( you can download this from Immigration Website ). This is submitted with a Contract of Employment.
You will need to have Chest X-rays, Blood Tests and a full Medical. You have to fill out an Application for a Work Permit ( you can download this too ). You can get round submitting Police Checks by keeping you Permit to work less than 24mths.
It may sound overwhelming, but it is pretty straight forward. Don’t pay anyone to do it for you. I can help point you the right way.
It will cost less than 200 Quid for Applications and Medicals.
Draycote went into administration last year and after struggling along were bought by the Cannon Group (who own Oldhams in Warwick)
Talking to one of there ex drivers yesterday who was glad to leave, as I was
The motors that are still running out of Rugby are looking a bit shabby now, which is a shame. One of the brothers has gone to Panic and the other is back behind the wheel Seems like Panic are doing well, 54 trucks now and have moved to that place on the A5.
Hope your still enjoing life over there, don’t come back mate…it’s crap here

What are the classes in NZ licence wise to UK ones And what age limit will they take expats i have spoke to a few blokes about NZ and they siad its a great place to live . i am looking for some where to relocate and not back to the UK
UK Class 1 = NZ Class 5 . Simple Theory Test to convert UK to NZ.
I think age limit could be 56, but don’t quote me on this.
NZ is good, but usually big hours for small money. NZ has one of the highest Tax rates in world. You will never be rich here, but I guess it depends what you are used to.
Hi guys im new to the trucknet and was new to NZ this year also. When i came out i worked for a south island company but shunting from taupo to auckland and wellington was not for me after working europe for the past 14 years.I now work for Linfox which was total transport taupo and what a great move it was as well.I now get to see all of the north island, see the family maybe a couple of nights in the week and saturday and sunday. The work i do is with a quad unit and trailer still roping and sheeting as i enjoy like my Denby days.Anyone who comes here don`t be blinked its hard work but there is a paradise.
Good luck. !
My landlady keeps pestering me to visit, suggesting there are job opportunities. She is a UK ADI and DSA examiner and had to retake her exams to continue teaching in NZ.
To be honest I think she would prefer me to go over there and she could sell this house, and let me rent the spare NZ house she owns.
As your Mum used to say when you couldn’t have something. We’ll See!
At present she is in Kaikoura in the South Island. I have other friends living in the North at Napier and have some vague plans to visit on a motorcycle over the next few years.
