Truck cleaning

Guys, I’ve heard of this cleaning stuff called white diamond or diamond white, for cleaning fuel tanks. I would love to get mine all shiney again, is there anything out there that will do the job and bring it back to its former glory that is cheap and readily available out is white diamond the only thing ?

I thought Diamond White was something homeless people drank to turn into Charles Kennedy.

Any metal polish will do the trick and PLENTY of elbow grease, but I am not sure how much that costs!!!

You can get it in a tin, I think it’s made by “go on son, put your back into it, dads having a brew”

Romanian Elbow Grease is £5 in Sainsburys (car park).

its good stuff, and its £15 per bottle

How does this compare to Peek and Solvol, similar action similar amount needed?

Both good products in their own right with Peek being well priced from certain outlets, but neither leave a coating on alloy to help protect against salt attack in winter (nor the brake dust bath from drivers incapable of using the vehicle’s built in retarder)…does the film work or is that sales bullshine.

In response to the brake dust comment, you could try using a wheel sealant or wax after you’ve polished the tanks.

Wheel sealant would probably be better as its made to stop traffic film and brake dust sticking and makes it much easier to wash off the small amount that does stick.

The best metal polish about is the Britemax ‘metal twins’. That with some #000 and #0000 grade steel wool will have them looking like mirrors. Its fairly expensive though but does come in various sizes.

Thanks for that, going to splash out on the Britemax pack and see how long the finish lasts.

Cif bathroom cleaner first to get the crap off and then a metal polish to make it shine

Everything you need is on that page there. The large pair is £34 and the steel wool is pennies. Look up Britemax metal twins reviews to see what it can do.

Halfords will stock AutoGlym alloy wheel seal, it comes as an aerosol spray. Its good and will save you time for doing whole tanks. May need more than one can. You could of course use a ‘rub on’ wheel seal, might kill your arm doing a couple of tanks though! A wax will seal them too, but I would suggest an alloy wheel seal since you mentioned brake dust.

The 16oz twin pack is on Ebay @ £30.55 at the moment free delivery, bought.

Thanks for the recommend, i haven’t tried wheel sealant before, can cope with the brake dust when i come back on shift, it’s the winter salt that’s the biggest headache when combined with brake dust its murder to keep at bay.

Ah, good buy!

I’d get the steel wool they have on my link, I found it difficult to get anywhere else.

A wax will definitely help. It helps stop stuff sticking and makes it much easier to remove when it does stick. Beware commercial power washers as the formulas they use in their foam tends to strip wax as well as grime! If you end up waxing or sealing using your own snow foam or TFR could be an idea.

Are you getting the tanks ready for show or just wanting them generally clean?

No shows.

Fuel tank isn’t too bad Its a rectangular combined fuel/hydraulic tank, a once a month polish keeps it looking decent enough for a fleet motor, its the front wheels and obviously to a lesser extent the small mid lifters which suffer the brake dust, can’t help it still take a foolish pride in the job.

When you do keep the wheels clean it shows just how heavy some drivers are on the brakes.

1kg of 0000 steel wool on its way.

Any ideas where i can get some elbow grease cheap…

Ah right, in that case you should notice good results by using a sealant. It isn’t a magical barrier but they do what they do very well. If it was for a show there’s plenty more products I could show you for an even better finish!

Elbow Grease is £14 for 8 on Amazon! http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KU5Q2JI/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2/278-3202610-1272128?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_r=0SMVTHX90753G6SDRA9P&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_i=B000TVM5T4

Its a good degreaser, works great on engine bay, hoses and the like.

     elbow grease, might have known.

Must be the Aussie concept…tinyurl.com/p97s8sl

Did anybody see the episode of "Friends’’ where Chandler had to resist taking the ■■■■ out of the rest of them, after a bet, and how he was in agony keeping quiet when the opportunity arose. He paid his $10 and all the jokes he stored up for the last week just blurted out.
Well I’m Chandler and I’m in agony here

Where’s Orangeboy, he’s a tankpolisher, he’ll help me out

Go on fill yer boots… , heard it all a million times before… :smiling_imp:
