job /jobs going near me driving for moy park transporting live chicken + there finished products.
whats involved in transporting chickens, do you need certificates, you dont have to catch them do you
Speak to cheeky monkey thats what he does for faccendas
I would say it would be PLUCKING HARD
I think you need some sort of Certificate to carry them… Years ago in my early teens I used to catch chickens and crate them, then the driver and his mate used to have stack a lorry load of possibly 10 crates high so a lot of manual work… Just depends what your job entails??

You will need a ‘live animal transport certificate’ - i got 3/4 pages of stuff to read, and was then quizzed by a bloke for about 30 mins.
The job is easy, if a little smelly, drive to farm, open curtains - catch team stick chickens in plastic ‘draws’, and load them on truck - close curtains, take to factory, weigh in, then sit in truck and watch them unload - repeat.
When I first started driving for Phil Handley I had to pick some up from near Lincoln and take them to a chicken factory somewehre near leeming.
One of the chickens poped its head out the cage and it was frozen on arrival quite funny at the time but the kids that passed me in the car pointing at it didnt seem to find it funny.

Just drive past the factory next week at the first sign of summer sun, that should make your mind up. I made the mistake of parking outside the Moy Park factory in Ashbourne as I was delivering there in the morning.
I also used to deliver engineering parts into Butterball’s factory on Tritton Road Lincoln

Hi,im unable to log in as cheeky monkey anymore (forgotten password and no access to old email account

In answer to your question ady1 carrying live chickens is without a doubt the easiest job ive EVER had once you get used to the smell and the little buggers pooing on you out of the trays as you walk past
,you will need to pass the animal transporters test which is multi choice, you need to get 22 out of 27 to pass, without the certificate you can only carry livestock a maximum of 65 kms from the factory
As uckna has said you basically drive to the farm, wash your wheels (bio security) and park up and let the catching team do their stuff,a full oload normally takes about 1 hour so we take our break while they load you and you kip then you close the curtains wash your wheels again then off back to the factory, over the weighbridge so the factory can work out an average bird weight, then curtains back and wait while your tipped then WE wash down our own lorries (some firms just drop the full one and pick up a clean mt),reload our mt modules and it begins again
Plenty of waiting around on farms if the catch is running slow (wet litter, lorries before you late, etc) but at least your out in some really nice countryside,we go as far down as cullumpton, portsmouth, abergavveny and up to kettering from brackley
Dont you stack your crates anymore in back of lorry or use not have crates?

Dont you stack your crates anymore in back of lorry or use not have crates?
We used plastic baskets which hold up to 50kg of birds,so small birds (thinnings) are up to 30 per basket and fully grown birds are usually 21/22 per basket, the baskets are carried in ally modules which each hold 12 baskets and you get 22 mods per artic (12 double stacks=264 baskets)
when transporting them over long distances, make sure there are only 3 to a seat, and each one has to wear a seat belt…thats the hardest part of the job…

don’t some carry a Mounty on the back and do their own loading ?
ps.if you want me to change your email address on the Cheeky Monkey account send me a pm ( you could get a password reminder then IIRC )
You can go slightly overloaded - chickens can jump and stay in air for a while, so if 1/3 of them will do it at the time, you can load more
