Hi all, i seemed to have forgotten to add a thread on the book that i have written. It charts Bob Carter’s life story, from his Army days to working for the family company, to Seawheel and then the formation of Trans UK, and trucking to the Middle East. There are around 300 photos and scans, most of them unseen. you can get hold of a copy here (please go to the publisher direct to help support them and make more of these types of books to keep being made)

Hi Mat , just finished the book, really enjoyed it and some great pictures as well.
Love reading about those Middle East runs, also read Paul Rowlands book which ties in with this, as well as Cola Cowboys and Long Haul Pioneers.
What those that did it achieved, seems an amazing feat to me and probably impossible today with the political situation in the area, even if the need and money was there to justify it.
If you want a criticism, I don’t get time to read at home so take the books with me when I’m away, being a large book its easy to damage when in a bag, moving between cars, trucks and ferries, but really a very minor point and so far the book is undamaged, but still have to get home.
When are you going to write a book about your travels, as you must have a few tales from your travels over the years?
I suppose now I’ve finished I’ll have to read Not all sunshine and sand again or Paul Rowlands feature in Truck and Driver.
As you know Mat, you twisted my arm up my back til I bought a copy at Gaydon.
But I can honestly Strongly recommend it to anyone who is interested in transport, that it’s a cracking read with excellent pictures, & plenty of them .

I hope to pick up a copy of this wonderful book soon, sorry to cut in here but I’ve found a small series of videos which I thought might be interesting?
Purchased the book - great pictures but thought it was poorly written.
I knew and worked with Bob at Seawheel, took over the operation he set up useing S Jones vehicles in Birmingham for Dart/Seawheel based on the Frightliner system and expanded it nationally.i moved out of the Irish operation at Preston Docks which eventually closed after a 3month dock stike - the work moved to Fleetwood. At the time Preston Docks was the largest container operation in Europe!! It was very busy.

Sorry to hear that you thought it was poory written. It was a shame i had to condense his life into such a small book essentially
Read the book a few times… and can understand where you’re coming from when you say " condensed book " However it still stands as a well written book and records an important part of our history… I enjoyed it very much …
