Must admit to driving for a couple of “iffy” firms in the past and would advise to give that lot a wide berth.

These firms are usually water tight legally.
They are often also the only firms who will give a newbie the break into European (or even UK) transport that they need. Few drivers like working for them, although there are always a few who do. But if you need the job and they offer what you need …
