Trans Europa Ferries

I’ve just read on a shipping forum that I’m a member of that TEF (Trans Europa Ferries) that operate between Ramsgate and Ostend have suspended all operations. Any one know more?

Haven’t heard but its no loss, that thing should be torpedo’d outta the sea!

Foods brutal, cabins stink, and you need overalls when returning your truck!

Good riddance to it

I only used it once there and back and while I didnt think much to the little old scrap they were running and the food it was quite handy being able to interrupt your rest for ferry movement etc and park in the ferry terminal and not be ejected out of the terminal to find parking where there would be none at 2am. Could be a false rumour as it stands anyway, I havent read anything concrete.

Be careful when coming from Ooostende, I had two passengers under the trailer as I waited to get to the lanes, luckily I spotted them before I got under the bridge into the lane area. I asked the two lady’s from British border control was it bad and they said on average they catch anything up to 75 of them a week! Disgraceful.

75 a week :open_mouth: ?
Things have gone quiet then.
It used to be 75 a day !

Suspended until further notice as of yesterday, they had been literally paying cash on delivery for their bunkers recently - not a good sign, Slovenia is generally in a bad way financially and that’s where they are based :unamused:

Not the greatest boats and timetable/crossing time “flexible” but bit of a loss to us as we can’t just fly down to Dunkerque or Calais with 40% of the loads we do :stuck_out_tongue:

Cobelfret will be busy then !

I bet the stupid Russian waiter is cursing  all them meals.

This is Kent is reporting that all sailings have been cancelled over the weekend due to technical problems but that they are expected to resume on Monday.

Port of Ostende website is showing the Gardinia as an arrival on the 23rsd, 24th & 25th (although she isn’t showing as any departures). Ostend Spirit has returned to lay up in Tilbury, which given TEF have her on a very new 3 year bare boat charter, is somewhat strange to say the least, the Larkspur is in the lay-up berth in Ostend and apparently totally knackered and in all probability will be on the same voyage as the Pride of Dover pretty soon.

Wisteria and Oleander are still owned and chartered out by TEF and operational in the Med. If TEF were in as much bother as suspected, I’m sure their Med boats would have been arrested by now - they rather over keen on that method of receiving payment down that way.

The Slovenian economy will have no effect on TEF, that is only where the ferry arm of the company is registered. The company is a subsidiary of Trans Europa Shipping Lines (Slovenia) which itself is owned by Denval Marine of Sevenoaks (who also own virtually all of the companies that TEF’s ships are actually owned by).
Ship ownership / chartering / umbrella companies is a very complicated and incestuous business.

Just an update.
All sailings are suspended from Ramsgate and Ostend today.
The website has been blank since the weekend.

was on the local bbc news today that all sailings are suspended because they are on the brink of going bust

I was told earlier they have gone pop today. Not a totally convincing source but …

As expected, they went pop today.

Probably abnormal loads, and Trans Europa will take just about anything on their vessels.

That’s the reason (nothing exciting or clandestine  ) as over certain dimensions, although we have permanent permits, in France we’d also need a pilot car and have to follow the nationals, where we don’t in Belgie :sunglasses:
