Ah! Thanks for posting that, Curnock. Blimey, that price has come down! Sorry I got the engine size wrong. I’ll bet that’s the only LHD C-series in the country. Right up my street! If I had the mechanical know-how, storage and funds I’d have liked to have rescued it myself. Ma’alesh! Let’s hope someone seizes the day and gets it on the show circuit. Cheers, Robert
Nice one Curnock ! The Mozzes in Jeddah ? I never really had a problem with , but my dear wife Gizza Chuck has been on to me for ages about the wasp ,s Buzzing round when we dine out Al Fresco , so on investigation I found the nest in the loft ,it was really big , well I had a crash helmet on and gloves , just in case I fell off the ladders, but the Yellow striped Bast ers got me 7 times I thought KB will be happy to know this !!! But I got it down eventually and fired it , now it’s All clear on the Western front , the stings are very itchy, so after a small brandy I thought. I’ll get the bike out and cool down ! Having the crash hat handy , I had just a shirt on , so I only went to Brownhills and back it was fantastic , PS the stings are still itchy Ron

Jona ? We are still in touch they live in Nottingham, Maria came to see us some time back and her Jag was overheating , 4.2 the block had got a crack in it by the cyl head ? I fixed temporally to get her home ,Ron
I am intrigued Ron. How can one fix a cracked block temporarily? I thought that once it was cracked it was game over.

Hi ,jsutherland yes of course you are correct , They where in a spot, they had to get back home , the engine was loosing water, just a bubble or two from the head gasket 1/2 way along the block ? What I did ,I let the engine cool down dried the area and put a patch of Rapped metal along the seem of the gasket , topped up the water , half turned the Rad cap so to stop the water pressure, supplied them with water and they got back safe ,The garage who took on this repair said the block was cracked where the piston liner was seated into the block and said it was Scrap the 4.2engine apparently had this fault ? They asked me to go up and check this out !! Which I did and confirmed there findings, Ron, ( thats taken me back ) thanks Johnny ,
Thanks Ron. You are very resourceful. Not too many of your type around these days.

Sorry to be late regarding the photo of Pierce Kennedy, but I thought that this may be of interest. I was working for Saeco at the time and they had me round baby sitting amongst many other things.
He worked for Olayan either he resigned or was made redundant and the next time I saw him he had come across the causeway and was selling ostriches. He enrolled me into the ‘sales team’ and away I went. I sold 1 ostrich to an Irish chap who wanted to buy 2 but I persuaded him to just buy 1 until we saw what return he would get. Just as well I did it became a cause celebre with the courts in London. Finally the Company was wound up.
Peter
Well what a small world Peter Pallet ? Thanks for your interest on the thread , and what a coincidence , And the venture of selling Ostriches in the UAE sounds bizarre to me ? I did know that a lot of money had been lost ? In some investment or other but I did not want to know of details being of a touchy subject a the time ? This may have been it ? Pierce and Maria together with there family , Marie Clare and John are great ,and we exchange Christmas cards with them ,Ron
This was the man who came down the Mountain with his Diff locked in drive ? The 40 ton pay load pushed against his Jake brake that hard that the planet gears in the diff broke up , he was lucky to to have to have got away with it ,Ron
Ron, have you seen the September issue of the Trucking magazine? There is an article on page 78 which would probably be of interest to you titled “Classic Truck - Why ERF dared to do it differently”
Sent from my Hol-U19 using Tapatalk
Thanks Johnny , I will look for it with interest , it all started for me with the Gardner engine at the Walsall Bus company This was the engine of choice that ERFs fitted that Was way back ! It was not just a job to me but something that I was proud of , it was our truck being home built with Gardner engine that I had served my apprenticeship with from 1951, it was brilliant, the engines where really dirty oil that seemed to get into my blood , no Detergent oil in those days , progressing on I got the job at S Jones as night foreman , hard work, looking after there mixed fleet , Leyland , ERF, Foden ,etc etc , No tilt cabs, old trucks that needed work to keep them running , S Jones soon found out that the ERF A series was a good truck ,still with Gardner and R/R , then the ■■■■■■■ , this was trouble free with good maintenance , the arrival of ,the B was just the best Tilt cab ■■■■■■■ & Fuller G/box hub reduction brilliant braking ! I had grown with its development ! And I received an award from ■■■■■■■ that took me eventually to Trans Arabia , the Best ERF that I ever drove is below , Ron
