Who are you working for mrginge,

Do spend sometime in Budapest, its a great city with some great history and architecture. Oh and a reputation for a good night out, last time I went we lost 2 mechanics on a night out. 1 was bought back by the Police at 5am the other made his way back across the city in the morning after meeting a young lady and escorting her back to her place, what a gentleman.

The entertainment round the back of the circuit can be quite good as well. :open_mouth:

W H Bence.

Moving modular units that build a Johnnie Walker bar. As it was such short notice im even travelling to London on Saturday to get an emergency passport as mine ran out in May this year  :open_mouth:

To say im excited is a understatement, and it was because of this website I found out about the job from a member on here who drives for them.

Sounds good mate, I was tempted to apply for that job myself! Kind of kicking myself now!

I was tempted to apply for that job myself, sounds like a great job, I hope it works out well for you.

To OP, good on you, don’t listen to the anti tramping naysayers on here. They all want everyone to be as miserable as them

Hungary is a great country, it’s a great spin down there. Plus they also have Tesco

Working 8 hours and having to endure a Toby Carvery meal without my nearest & dearest to share the “experience” (and kipping alone in a lorry afterwards) still sounds like drudgery to me TBH.

We have similar debate in my gig. 5 nights in your own bed but up at silly am. Or away, a lot. Similar to Toby Carverys. It’s a 10-14 hour shift, plenty of delsy dining and beers on top of tiredness then on your own in a room. I’m not sure which I prefer. Being away from home will always be a compromise. But being at home and up really early is a compromise too  .

I like 12 hours a shift. Not too long but the money is ok

But typical lorry driver’s mindset that thinks he’s on a cushy day worthy of mention despite the fact that he’s been “at work” for over eight hours …

Very dark attitude that, long before I was driving for a living I worked in retail and I cannot remember one shift where I finished in less than 12 hours. It’s not just as drivers that we work long hours. It’s in masses of industries.
My point was merely that, given the outlook of many drivers, is that the job doesn’t have to be soul crushing. I just wish that people could see that the job isn’t necessarily the worst of all the options.

I work in catering. Only an 8 hour day is a godsend haha. Can’t wait to be in the driving seat of a lorry instead.

Yeah, I was a chef for nearly 10 years, if you only worked 8 hours a day it was a part time shift. 14-15 hours shifts, 6 days per week was the norm. WTD doesn’t seem to count in the restaurant industry.

Prison officers days vary from 10 hours minimum to 14. Leave home 6am … have to stay until 9pm … wait for roll call to be correct, leave at 9:30 1 hour home back in for another 10 hour the next day.

Truckers have an easy life.

I do 12 and half hour shifts as a regular now but it is 2 on 2 off lol.

I only do occasional nights out now due to not wanting to be out all week.
But in my experience the ones that moaned about tramping were not doing it right,ie not setting their cabs up to be comfortable.
One bloke I worked with used to hate tramping and moan like hell, nut then he used a sleeping bag all week, never carried food etc and used to moan about been stuck in a lay by with no facilities etc,
If I do a night out I know that I have all the facilities I need in my cab, proper bedding on my bunk, stove, food, water, kettle, toiletries etc.
If you do it right it can be OK

0830 start - 1700 finish and Toby carvery and a pint of doom bar to wash it down.
It’s not all doom and gloom y’know!

0830 to 1700, I hope your paid per day rather than per hour then lol

I get paid per hour so if I only ended up doing that then it wouldn’t be worth tramping I might as well go on days or nights

I just booked the hours.

I would’nt be happy doing 8.5hrs as a tramper & then sitting in a Toby Carvery on my todd all evening, unpaid, whilst the family is at home miles away.

What’s the point?

Maybe I’m missing something, but the only way I could justify tramping would be to maximise earning potential without the stress of commuting in between. I’d want 11-13 hrs everyday.

Carry a smart set of jeans and shirt with you chat to the locals surprising how many women are curious about the inside of a lorry and bingo no need to sleep alone

If the guy is out tramping all week, he’ isn’t Iexpecting to be home therefore, knocking off at a sensible time, and not doing a 15 is a bonus.

Hit the nail on the head there M8, hours don’t matter tramping in fact they pass quicker working. Keeping occupied whilst away works best for me. I get bored rigid sat watching my tv or sat around in the middle of nowhere.
