There’s been so many changes within the industry since that list was made, and it wasn’t a curated list, so I’d recommend doing your own investigations.
Search for Driving Schools, with their own premises that you can visit, where you can talk to the trainers, physically look at the trucks. This should help you avoid the dreaded Brokers.
Any decent place will discuss an assessment drive prior to taking any money. Beware places that do not discuss this, it speaks volumes.
Do you know all the modular elements of the training process?
Get details on the package they offer:
Medicals - included or do you have to source your own?
Mod 1a & 1b (theory and hazard perception), and, Mod 2 (Intitial DCPC): Does their package include something like “DTS Anytime” ?
Mod 3a test - do they have their own facilities or do they “hire” someone else’s ?
Mod 3a DVSA-approved examiners - again, do they have their own? What are their charges for Mod 3? (these can vary massively)
Mod 3b is outside their control, that’s the on road practical test.
Mod 4 (second part of Initial DCPC): Included? Any training provided? Costs included? Again, these can vary massively across the country. Do they have their own DVSA-approved Examiner’s?
What about any potential “guaranteed pass” charges? A misleading description as it covers costs the of any re-tests, it doesn’t actually “guarantee” you can pass.
Don’t leap into it, take your time, and just because someone else personally recommends an outfit, it doesn’t really count for that much unless you know you can trust their judgement.
As above, and go and see them yourself.
It is a lot of money, and effort you are committing to. Before parting with any cash find the adresses of any schools that you might find in your area, and go see their premises.
An assessment drive will cost money but if you a bad feeling then maybe try elsewhere. Better to spend cash on two assessment drives and get a good school, rather than only one and get a bad one.
You assess them, as they assess your abilities.
From personal point of view I’d avoid red rose.
To be honest your a bit limited in Manchester got enterprise or Stockport hgv can’t think of many others if honest
Its a bit of a trek from east Manchester but Paul who has Hindley Green HGV training is highly recommended. I know he’s still going, not sure if still got the artic though, only seen the drawbar driving about. Does class 2 too
I used Enterprise (albeit 10 years ago).
I can’t fault them. They were very professional. They sorted the medical, at the premises. Arranged theory and hazard perception tests, and provided the study material.
