So thursday I get a call from dispatch “Can you meet a new driver in Yonkers and give him a test drive ?”

“Where do you find these men ? We have one guy in this depot called Annobell FFS”
Dispatcher laughs and I agree to meet the guy who actually turns out to be a good kid, so good infact not only does he take the test drive very well, he also asked to be shown how to wash out and load a tanker, show him I do and he seems to actually take notice of what I show him. Monday he is spending the afternoon with me to learn some more, I actually asked for this because the Ben & Jerry run every day for 3 weeks was getting to me.
Oh god, how long before the new bloke starts saying ‘■■■■■■■■’ ?

As it happens I have been the supervisor at Yonkers for 3 years now and as there is nobody above me there on the company I am sort of in charge. There’s a sort of office in our Lake Ave yard and I am the key holder, I do have to interview a lot of the applicants and it is a case of me not understanding them as 90% of them are Hispanic. I wish I had not accepted the senior position as some of the drivers are real twonks, the rate of damage done that of course nobody knows anything about is endless. I have seen a driver pull a trailer out of a space and take a hose tube off as he did so and the front fender off another trailer then deny he did it five minutes later.

Listen to your wife mate, driving jobs in the USA are mostly crap, moving to Canada as a lot of guys have seems the better option, staying where you are and working for Nippon Express sounds even better.
In order to get a green card you would have to dump your present wife and find an American one, which I am sure wouldn’t go down very well You can’t just apply for a green card, you would be wasting your time.
No trucking company in the USA can sponser anyone for a Green card, if you see ant advertisement offering driving jobs in the USA it’s a con to get so called lawyers fees to check your status, they take your money then a few weeks later say they can’t help you.
I had it again this week down in Georgia. “What the hell are you living in Canada for? Its cold up there!”…to which I responded “Yes it is, but America doesn’t want people from England, you wont let me live here so I’ve had no choice to but to live where its cold”. He then exclaimed “what do you mean you cant live here, you’re British, why would they stop you?!”. “You tell me” I said, followed by “Why would the US want to import qualified drivers with years worth of experience, a similar cultural background, already able to speak the language and a healthy bank ballance that would allow for a purchase of a house, a car and all sorts of furniture to stimulate the US economy when you can have 500,000 Mexicans a year swim across the Rio Grande, work illegally for less than the minimum wage, or legally for the minimum wage who dont speak English, have no savings and bring absolutely nothing to your economic situation other than widespread poverty and slum dwelling as they have no money to begin with to inject in to your economy and then proceed to earn so little they never will, and what they do have gets sent back home” Most Americans do seem quite shocked that the door is firmly closed to British people.
I get the same when you explain to a yank that there is no way I can actually get a job driving in the US their face drops to the floor
