Trailers towed behind Telehandler

Does anyone know the legislation for towing Trailers behind a Telehandler on the road?

We are looking at buying one for towing items between our 3 site compounds, roughly 3 mile apart on normal roads and wasn’t sure if they need to be MOT’d, braked, etc

No MOT required. Lights yes and brakes yes but I think there is a minimum weight for when brakes must be fitted. Telehandlers only currently have hydraulic brakes. Also, fixed drawbar only regardless of how many farmers you see illegally towing dolly/artics trailers. Red diesel permitted if running own kit on a non hire and reward basis.

Thats the basics but remember the vehicles own construction and use guide and that being torque converter assisted they arm’t made for towing big weights.

750KG + you need brakes on trailer, no ex site tele’s would have a pick up hitch fitted, and being technical, unless your a farmer, you cannot use red for hauling a trailer between sites, think of the poor hauliers losing work, wheres Foxy stars, he will know

We used to use a Dollied 4 wheel trailer with brakes behind Telehandlers and JCB 926’s.

Am here P  now you can chill out

depends on how far you’re going with said trailer attached to said tele flt. you’re limited on distance and you’re limited on capacity, you gotta run it on limeade too by law. no cherryade for you :frowning:
the arse end of a tele was designed to haul gensets / lighting rigs and things hence the reason for the high hitch point. you’ll need a dolly for an artic trailer you’ll have to install hydraulic sussie lines into the arse of the forks cos you gotta have lights and brakes on anything over 750kg. you also need an operator that knows what they’re doing
am gunna make a suggestion - go and have a look at a merlo turbo farmer - think that there’s a big merlo dealers in stockport. the turbo farmer out dragged a heavy duty john deere so it’s got plenty under the hood for this sort of stuff plus it has a 3 point linkage system and it comes with the hydraulics for it too
police take a dim view of heavy plant running dollied trailers on the roads round here - in fact any trailer really :frowning: and an even more dim view when you get caught running with cherry in tank too cos you’re not a farmer :exclamation: so you’d have to run on limeade instead and that just is not worth the extra expense :frowning:
the JCB 535/95 has transmission brake discs in the middle of the driveline under the cab plus hydraulic brakes in each wheel - cos it’s a total nightmare to reset. the 535/95 turbo version is about as quick as JCB tele’s get @ 25mph flat out in standard trim and 35mph if you give it to someone with a laptop who knows what they’re doing
be aware of the tele flt weights too - the older 535/95 like mine weighs in at 11.200kg according to the scales on the shell green industrial estate and the 2012 version weighs 9.400kg (they made it more compact and the cab is even $%^&*£ smaller than it was) so you’d be a bit limited as to exactly how much you can stack on a trailer anyways - don’t know what sort of loads clunk’s pulling but i never go more than 10ton with it
nice road trucker - cherryade (red diesel) is not permitted at anytime in the tank of any vehicle that is used for non agricultural purposes - believe me i’ve had the discussions roadside with the cops and got my wrist slapped for it.

you could always get a fast trac :grimacing:
