Trailer on public highway

Autumn may play in your favour since it will be getting dark around 1545 shortly. It is certainly illegal to leave an unlit trailer on the public highway during the hours of darkness, so if this land is designated as public highway then should the trailer be parked at such a time, then photograph it on numerous occasions unlit with a time stamp and its DVSA C number and report it to the Police, the local council and the DVSA.

The Police may not play ball, the council maybe but the DVSA will. The repurcussions for the MAN dealership could be quite interesting if it is their practice to park operators’ trailers out of their way and several operators’ trailers are involved.

I will keep note of this! Thanks!

I’m just a driver, and it is more than annoying when you have trailers parked at the gate. Our land is shared between 3 companies. One of the companies also asked them to stop but they ignored the polite request, they then parked a car on the bend and 2 rigid trucks where they park trailers, so I asked them to move the car from the bend. They didn’t see why it was stupid to park here… they knew it was my car, they know where I work, and my keys were in the office because I had the fitters changing tyres so a polite request could of had it moved

I like SDU’s answer. And of course, park something in the way of getting at the trailer. I’d have thought it illegal too, seeing as your trailers come under the prime movers insurance? Over here, it’s legal to park a trailer because they have the own rego and plates.

Depends on the state of rego, Peterm. In Queensland the prime mover carries the CTP for any trailers being towed, so no coverage when dropped. Also applies to caravans, boat trailers etc.
Next time you’re passing the twin BPs at Burpengary, drive through the truck park, you’ll see signage forbidding unhooking Qld registered trailers. Same at Australia wide BP truck stops.

Talk about confusing.
