Tragedy waiting to happen. J38 Truckstop

What are they thinking of at J38 Tebay truckstop, letting coaches loaded with families into the truckpark, just witnessed a coach load decamp into the truckpark, lots of kids milling around the front of the coach, running between the trucks and into the entry road after the barrier, this is a terrible mix ( think of the children) inattentive parents and excited kids who have been cooped up for a few hours on the coach doing what kids do, to make it worse some of the truck drivers seem oblivious to their surroundings and continue to race around the perimeter track at silly speeds. Get a ■■■■■■■ grip you thick ■■■■■ you are driving a goods vehicle not a go kart…

You’ll not educate coach drivers m8 , they’re as daft as those they’ve got on board ( pensioners excluded  ) I see them in there every time ,taking those on the Rock n roll to Blackpool ,worst bit being that you have to que up behind them to get your dinner for them not to buy owt , or they go in the shop for ■■■■ n energy drinks then leave litter on the lorry park .

Funnily enough it was Blackpool bound, operated by Durham County Coaches.
I’ve not been in J38 for a good few months so this was a bit of a eye opener, luckily I was in before they arrived and managed to get my breakfast before the queue started, I think I may be a bit hormonal today as I spoke to a manager before I left to voice my concerns regarding public safety, he mumbled something about it being down to the coach drivers showing common sense on where they let the passengers out, so no joy there, I even had a word with what I thought was the coach driver about the kids running around but it turned out he was the driver of the empty coach 5 spaces up and had only popped in for his free breakfast, his response was a classic to be fair, “ stupid ■■■■■■■■ they don’t realise that getting hit by one of these is not like getting hit by a car “… no ■■■■ sherlock :open_mouth:
I feel like a bit of a tart now for letting it bother me enough to cause a fuss.

Genuine concern mate, thats what makes you a lorry driver cos you know what can go wrong and can visualise the realities, it isn’t tartish in any way shape or form, its simple bloody common sense.

My suggestion, its no good speaking directly to these people, cos deniable, what you do is write keeping a copy or email the chief general manager of the company who owns and operates the site, if that’s two companies cc the site owner in.
That puts them on notice that the system is at present is danger to life and limb, and its undeniable that they now know.

Its no good them trying to the blame the coach driver, that isn’t going to wash with a coroner should the worst happen, especially when you forward that dated letter and/or email to said coroner, the fan will be liberally spread in the smelly stuff.

I know it sounds stupid, could you not email the pics to the local rag staring a near mis in the truck park … they sensationalist and hen it could get a reaction.

It’s such a dangerous place around a truck and kids shouldn’t be there …

That does sound like an accident in the waiting, I think Juddian’s suggestion is a good one mate, don’t delay.

I always wonder why MSA’s put caravans in with the trucks, joe public just doesn’t have lorry sense, and kids have no sense at all when they just want run and burn energy (and why shouldn’t they) so it should be for adults to keep them safe.

Yeah I never understand why drivers belt it around the parking area like they are on a time trial.

The truckstop will be after customers spending money because they struggle to make a living with truckers only. This will continue until there is an accident and realise trucks and coaches will need to be separated.I tried coach driving several years ago for an outfit in west London but I only lasted 3 weeks and one of them was working my notice. The average coach driver can be just as boring as the average truck driver. The most revolting thing that happens frequently is when the coaches have their toilets´ contents dumped by the driver on any open space including car parks or even a public street.

This has been going on for years there, either coach loads of pensioners, or coach loads of people looking like they are on there way for a Jeremy Kyle audition. Why they cannot use the services up the road I don`t know.

I once pulled into Watford Gap N/B about 2 year ago and the silly ■■■■■ there were allowing cars to park in the lorry park as the car park were full :unamused: There were kids playing football and running around without a care in the world oblivious to the trucks driving around them, cars taking up spaces which was needed by someone who leagally has to have a break unlike them and some of them parking like right bar stewards taking up 2 spaces.
No lie I saw 2 arguments between irate car drivers and truck drivers as due to there being no spaces left in the lorry park the truck drivers had blocked cars in to take their 45min breaks and the car drivers were wanting the truck drivers to shift so they could ■■■■ off :unamused:
I did ask if we were allowed to use the car park when the lorry park is full to no avail

They wouldn’t of let their kids lose if they saw what drivers did up their front wheel [emoji6]

I’ve never understood why coaches and cars use the truck stop when there are all the facilities at the main services north and south.

personally I would ask for the manager of the truckstop and and ask him who’s responsible for allowing coaches in where trucks park,if he replied that it was his decision I would then point to the kids running about and say well I hope you will take responsibility when a child gets run down by an hgv,i done the same years ago on the horseshoe at heathrow, plane spotters used to park their vehicles there as it’s right beside the taxi point for planes, one lot of kids were running around as lorries were going by,i went into air Canada and spoke to one of the blokes I knew,he came out and saw them,he then bxxxxxxd the parents and told them to go away in no uncertain terms as next time he would call security/police,never saw them again after that

Quite a few services where truck drivers go through the lorry parking area to get fuel are an accident waiting to happen a lot go through far too quickly Leigh Delamere you see it a lot. Maybe bad design by the services but real culprits are drivers who don’t seem to able to adjust their speed to the circumstances as quite a few are trolley dolly plobbers.

Happens here as well especially with the larger Aires c/w pizza/takeaway/ restaurants attracting coaches. Kids being around wouldnt be a problem as such if some drivers didnt enter the parking area at warp speed and again exit flat to the mat… :unamused:

I have not been into this truck stop for a number of years, because I have been driving coaches, now back on the trucks I called in on my way back from Scotland a few week ago and was amazed to see Two coaches in there with 60+ people all waiting for meals so I walked out and spent 45min in the cab with a brew. The coaches that are using it are the ones from the north east going south because it is the first stop when coming through Kirby stephen where the drivers get a free meal on the way to Blackpool. The incentives for coach drivers at Tebay north and south bound are by far the best on the motorway network so I can not see it ever being over run with coaches . But I agree it is not made for coaches and the coach drivers who stop there are some of the, shall we say not very bright ones, I’m not getting into the coach driver / truck driver thing I can do both but only do which ever one gives me the most money at the time.
When I was coach driving I would never have dreamed of stopping at a truck stop including Lymm, there are more perks at the service areas.
