Traffic Jams

Hello,

Always wondered this what do you do if your stationery in a long traffic jam at the end of your driving time?

Do you have to pull to hard shoulder for 9 hours sit there what do you do?

Thanks

When the traffic starts moving and you are clear of the hold up you go to the first available parking and take a printout, or use the back of the chart if on analogue, and write on it explaining your reason for deviating form the regulations and exceeding the driving time. That provision is written into the regulations.

Start looking 1 hour before you need to stop, try to plan ahead, doesn’t always work out, but I’ve very rarely been in that position.
If it’s a total stop, you won’t be registering driving time, if you’ve got a 2nd generation Tachograph & it’s stop start don’t follow like a lamb, let the traffic move ahead then catch it up & stop until there’s another gap, that way it only registers the time you are moving not all the crawling. (Can make a big difference to your driving time)

Thanks

I’ve never gotten into the situation thank god but it’s just one of those questions I’ve never really gotten an answer for.

I was very lucky two days ago as I was stuck in the traffic because of the accident on M5 between junctions 28-29 and Cullompton was not far away. When I parked up in the industrial estate I had only 22 minutes of driving time. Night out necessary. Thank you car driver.
