Tractor - drawbar conversion

With the benefit of the trucknet’s accumulated wisedom in another post (apologies for repeating myself), I have decided to have a tractor unit converted to drawbar configuration. However, I had a quote today from a specialist company for £7.5K + tax to make the conversion … I nearly had to change my shorts!! … i need no change in length or wheelbase … just (as far as I can see it) … the fifth wheel removed … a ringfeed draw bar bolted onto the chassis rails & the airlines extended to reach the back of the truck … I am missing something? … is there some clever wizardary to be done? … or does £7.5K seem bloody steep for an afternoons work■■?

Try Euroaxles stoke .

Id find a second quote. Why do you even need the 5th wheel removed unless that price is to add a box body on to the tractor chassis too.

Was the drawbar coupling included in the price ?

No idea about ringfeder but a 57mm VBG air hitch is somewhere about the £3k mark

I’ve only stretched one unit before, it was done by Inter UK near Bury St Edmunds

The rearmost chassis crossmember to which the drawbar coupling is bolted needs to be considerably stronger than the original fitment. There are likely to be things like air tanks or batteries in the way which will need to be moved even if only slightly.
