Tracking Software options.... Advice

Morning All,

I’ve just remembered my username and password and thought Id pop on to ask a quickie…

I have been asked by my gaffer to research in vehicle tracking systems, we previously used Instamapper along with our GPS mobile phone handsets which are issued daily to drivers.

Instamapper is no more… I have tried and tested one or two alternatives (lociloci and mycartracks), mycartracks was a winner until they decided that they would now start a premium service at €5p/m per handset and with 30+ handset it isn’t really an option.

Any thoughts or pointers appreciated

Im currently trying Google Latitude…

The “Pointer” is half way across the town (about 5mile away) so cant say its a viable option

business.tomtom.com/en_gb/fleet-management/ and you might get a new satnav from him
isotrak.uk.com/ as used by asda, tesco, stobart and co
fleetmatics.co.uk/testimonia … nsport/451

Cheers 205…

So Im assuming that money will need to be spent for a reliable experience?

Obviously the idea behind replacing our age’ing handsets for HTC touchscreen thingymabobs was to set up each handset (we have 30) onto Instamapper and use the tracking it provided for guideance

I was hopeful Latitude could offer some sort of alternative on the “cheap” but obviously not

You could use Real Time GPS tracker app, which I believe replaced Instamapper (or part of it). It’s okay for an individual, not sure how you’d display multiple handsets on one screen though, and it eats battery at an alarming rate on a S3.

Thats the ones i’ve used, there are loads more available and this one is free sourceforge.net/projects/opengts/

Cheers chaps…

Im gonna spend another hour or so “researching” today.

Google Tracks is an excellent app to use and only tracks via the GPS so keeps data charges down, only issue being it only works on the actual handset and not viable on a PC etc…

Looks like the gaffa is actually going to have to put his hands in his pockets if he wants an all singing, all dancing tracing facility

Just thought it would be fair to offer an update

We now have 20 handsets set up on a system called “ConnectmyRide” which does the job

Download the app on the handset, setup an account on the connectmyride website, link the handsets and away you go… doesnt give you a “Realtime” tracking option (see the marker moving) but each time the browser is refreshed it updates your location (within a few feet of your actual position)

Again, thanks for the pointers and guidance folks…

Safe Driving :sunglasses:
